There are a ton of great places to eat in LA, and they’re spread out all over town. Here are some of David and Sabrina’s favorites of a variety of cuisines, prices ranges, and vibes. They’re grouped by neighborhood to help you find options near wherever you are staying, but look through them all and don’t be afraid to venture out!
Note: Kosher options at the bottom
The Valley (near the wedding venue)
Tony's Mexican Grill (Valley Glen)
Our favorite inexpensive homestyle Mexican food on the healthier side - perfectly charbroiled chicken & seafood dishes, daily specials highly recommended
Sam Woo Village BBQ (Van Nuys)
The best chinese food David has ever had outside of China, moderately priced, authentic yet familiar dishes - order the Fish w/ Spicy Salt, Sweet & Pungent Fish/Chicken, Chicken w/ Chinese Mushrooms, Peking Duck, & Choi Sum (if in season)
Chiang Mai Thai Kitchen (Valley Glen)
High-quality inexpensive Northern Thai food featuring their famous Khao Soi (order protein of choice w/ extra vegetables), also David recommends the obscure very stinky & medium-spicy pork w/ glass noodles dish Kang Ho
Nat’s Early Bite (Sherman Oaks, open until 2)
Casual inexpensive breakfast/lunch diner - excellent chilaquiles!
Harvest Moon Cafe (Valley Village, open until 4)
Slightly bougie-er breakfast/lunch café & bakery - great lemon rosemary muffins, salads, egg bowl, fancy coffees, and sweet/spicy bacon (David’s recommendation), avoid the “biscuits” if you’re southern
Salsa & Beer #3 (North Hollywood)
Authentic Mexican restaurant (in spite of the name) w/ multiple locations - food is on the heavier and slightly pricier side but really great, strongly recommend Molcajete or ask for the “sizzling creamy shrimp”
Sunny’s Sushi Hut (North Hollywood)
Tiny but mighty very well-priced sushi - start with the Garden Salad and you can’t go wrong with any of the rolls!
Curry Zone (Valley Village)
Indian quality counter-serve food - inexpensive, a whole lot of very good food for the price, David recommends the Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer, Sabrina really likes the Goat Curry but warns that the bones take up a lot of space in the container
Laurel Tavern (Studio City)
Moderately priced gastropub with very good burgers and brussel sprouts
Firefly (Studio City)
Fancy expensive date night, everything is super delicious and great ambiance, make reservations! (and go anyway)
Mizlala (Sherman Oaks)
Bougie Israeli food, very good portion sizes - parking is confusing, turn on the street before you get to the restaurant to park in back, otherwise you’ll end up accidentally on the freeway
Hollywood / Central LA
Ruen Pair (Hollywood/Thai town)
Popular and delicious medium-priced Thai restaurant - the spicy eggplant is amazing
La Pergoletta (Los Feliz)
Romantic slightly upscale Italian food w/ handmade pasta dishes - one of our favorite go-to date nights, choose from a list of pastas & pair it with a sauce, or go with the Pappardelle Boscaiola special
Home Restaurant (Les Feliz)
Slightly upscale American comfort food in a hip forested indoor/outdoor household setting - excellent beet & pear salad, salmon salad, beef short rib, fried chicken sandwich, specialty mixed drinks
Oo Kook Korean BBQ (Koreatown)
Awesome full-on Korean BBQ experience - expensive but all-you-can-eat
Guelaguetza (Koreatown)
Oaxacan (Mexican) cuisine specializing in 4 different varieties of molé - crazy/noisy and a little too expensive but delicious and unique, also great champurrado and fancy mixed drinks
Mazal - vegetarian (Lincoln Heights)
Excellent vegetarian Israeli food, expensive but really delicious
West Side
Canter’s Deli (Fairfax)
Historic and expensive Jewish deli - David always orders the Matt’s Special w/ Pastrami instead of turkey, Sabrina orders a Pastrami Reuben with no cheese, the onion rings ordered extra crispy are the best you can get anywhere
Tasty Noodle House (Sawtelle)
Moderately priced Shanghainese restaurant - get the cold Steamed Chicken w/ Spicy Sesame Sauce appetizer, Black Pepper Seafood Rice Cake, and Spicy Fish/Beef w/ Tofu Noodle Soup
Joan's on 3rd (Beverly Grove)
Low-key inexpensive market-style deli counter - curry chicken salad, corned beef hash, lots of interesting deli drink options, pickle beer!!!
Casablanca Moroccan Kitchens (West Hollywood)
Fancy expensive date night, prix fixe menu of incredible 3-course meals - tagines, pastillas, couscous, etc.
Bacari W. 3rd / Bacari Beverly Hills
Fancy expensive date night, Italian/Mediterranean food - lots of amazing small dishes (tapas kind of style)
Paradise Cove Beach Café (Malibu)
An extravagant & expensive barefoot experience if you want tons of seafood with your feet literally in the sand - order the massive hot or iced sampler platter (feeds at least 2) and the mixed drink that comes in a coconut!
Pasadena
Noodle Street
Casual inexpensive Asian fusion, mostly noodle dishes - get the egg and tomato noodle, beef rolls, and spring mix salad
Union
Fancy expensive date night, Italian food w/ handmade pasta dishes make reservations! (and go anyway) - Sabrina says “get the carrots with labneh!”
Glendale
Fish King
Fresh, simple, and affordable seafood platters from the galley kitchen - our favorite old hang, seriously great
Señor Fish (Eagle Rock)
Inexpensive counter-serve Mexican restaurant w/ outdoor patio seating - amazing seafood tacos and other specialties
Pho Hut
Really good inexpensive Vietnamese restaurant with Pho & other options - get the diced Salmon Rice Dish or Lemongrass Beef Vermicelli Bowl
Kosher food
Valley:
PSY Kitchen (get the crispy mushrooms)
Bo-Re-Kas (amazing! only open until 2pm, or until they run out, order ahead and pickup is the best way to go)

West Side:
Elias Kebabs (takeout, great & affordable)
Holy Grill (the best Shawarma, Sabich, and more, seriously the best, better than Tel Aviv Grill)
