JOEL’S PERSPECTIVE

Our story was far from your average “met-at-school” kind of thing. Quite honestly, it’s something of a miracle we met at all. Though our story is goofy, it was perfect for us, and i wouldn’t change it, even though Sadie thinks I would.
Some time in November of 2023, while I was still in school at BYU, I was scrolling through facebook with my roommate when I happened to come across the profile of a certain Sadie Smith on the little suggested friends thing. I didn’t think too much of it, other than that she was super pretty. So I did the most logical thing I could think of. After my roommate hyped me up, I did something bold. I sent… a friend request. And then pretty much forgot about it until late December. Super effective.
See I had never done the whole dating app thing, and had never hit somebody up on social media, so I really had no idea how to go about the whole thing. So I decided to leave it until I had an excuse to text or hit her up. Some time passed, but by the end of December, she put something up on her story. I was down in Arizona at the time, on Christmas break with my family. I had honestly forgotten about the whole thing until I saw her post, after which I immediately texted my roommate. he then told me that I was a pansy if I didn’t text her, so naturally, I had too. she had posted something about the church, and so I made some stupid comment about how I agreed and thought it was cool, and about how she was cute and such. The classic Facebook messenger slide was in full effect. Somehow, I’m still not sure to this day, she actually responded, only like a few minutes later. From there, a little bit of conversation got started, and we agreed to go out once we both were back in Utah. We even kept a little conversation going before we finally went out on our first date, on January 5th. It was the best first date I had ever been on. It just felt effortless, in a way it never had before. All we did was grab swig and go to a lookout point and talk. We talked for hours about the most random stuff. It just felt easy, like I could be me, and talk to her about anything. However, after about 3 hours of talking, we both had to pee, but nobody wanted to say anything, so I had to call it a wrap. While taking her home and walking her to her door, I knew I wanted to do it again, and literally asked her out again right then and there. And the rest is history!

SADIE’S PERSPECTIVE

So it was New Year’s Eve and I had posted the prophets new year’s resolutions on my Instagram story. Since my Instagram is linked to my Facebook, it automatically posts there as well. I usually never check Facebook but I was checking my viewers for whatever reason that day. When I checked it the first person at the top was Joel. I was kind of confused at first because I didn’t know who he was, so I looked at his profile. After looking at it, I thought he was cute hahah. I never message anyone first or anything so to kind of shoot my shot I looked him up on instagram to follow him. I couldn’t find his instagram so I just thought oh well and went on with my day. Literally like 5-10 minutes I got a message on messenger. When I saw it I literally thought there was no way. Then when looking at my phone I saw it was Joel. Another thing is when people message me I usually don’t respond to them but I responded pretty fast and we started talking a lot. Eventually, he got my phone number and was texting me. Later that night, I was with some friends and one of my friends saw Joel’s name pop up on my phone. My friend had told me Joel was such a good guy and I should hangout with him. So I did. We hung out like a week later and I was actually super nervous. Thankfully it was just so easy to talk to him. I had never met anyone I could talk to about literally anything and have it be so fun. Half of the time I was grilling him about Cambodia questions like things he might have eaten. He was trying really hard not to answer them because he thought I would be grossed out but I didn’t care, I was just curious. After dropping me off, he immediately asked for another date and I was so excited! It was always so easy from the beginning to just be myself with him. From that day we hung out pretty much everyday except the times me or him have gone out of town. We both love our alone time and have both thought it’s weird how we never get sick of each other. Joel became my best friend in like two minutes and I am so happy he’s going to be my best friend for eternity.
