Our Wedding

Sage and Landon grew up together with both of their families involved in Living Hope EFC. When Sage was in 7th grade, she noticed that the quiet boy across the room in youth group was cute AND he played football. It was clearly meant to be and she spent the better part of three years blushing whenever they made eye contact and acting like a crazy awkward teenager. Landon didn't notice, as the three year age gap seemed more dramatic as a high schooler and, as the pastor's kid, Sage was off limits. Finally, the summer before ninth grade, God confronted Sage at Deeper Life Bible Camp and gave her heart back, basically telling her "no." From then on, Sage found it possible to just be friends with Landon and found it more enjoyable than crushing on him. Landon, off to college, still didn't think much of her, but at least could admit that he was glad to see her whenever they helped out with AWANA on Wednesday nights.
The following years consisted of Sage and Landon attending college, Sage at Northwesten in St. Paul and Landon at LaCrosse, and figuring out who they were and what they were called to. Sage worked hard to obey the Lord's clear "no" and just barely convinced everyone, including herself, that Landon was not attractive to her anymore and she was on to bigger and better things. Both made some bold statements, such as "I feel bad for whoever has to marry her" and "I could never be happy with him because we're so different." In the middle of this was the summer of 2020, when old youth group friends found themselve jerked back into their hometown and committed to spending time together and starting a Bible study. Landon and Sage look back on that summer and shrug, saying they don't really know what was happening in either of their hearts, but something happened. They found themselves thinking on the same wavelength and being drawn to each other. Landon even stayed late after Sage's grad party and gave her advice for college. A few friends noticed, too, but the spell was broken when summer ended and college picked up again.
Both committed to sticking with the small group and continued to grow as friends throughout their college years. Shortly before Sage graduated, she decided to move to Colorado for a ministry residency. She had seven months of living at home and then she was off to the mountains. And she was stubbornly determined to go with no strings attached, no boyfriends. That summer and fall, however, Landon finally noticed Sage. They both served as leaders in the youth group they grew up in, started a book club together, and talked often. Sage, again determined to obey the Lord, wrestled with Landon's reappearance in her life and stubbornly surrendered him to the Lord. She filtered every ounce of attention she got from him out as simple friendliness. In November, on the way to a youth conference, Landon finally admitted to himself that he had feelings for Sage. But she was going to Colorado and he knew he couldn't say or do anything so he continued to be friends with her and hoped it would go away when she left.
The day Sage left, Landon texted her at 6a and asked if he could say goodbye. He showed up to her house, hugged her, and told her he really cared about her (as a friend, of course). Sage was moved by this gesture, but convinced there was no romance between them. God had closed that door and she had to obey. She didn't know what to think, though, when her chest hurt as she drove away whenever she thought about him.
They both assumed things would fizzle out in their friendship when she moved. But they actually started talking more! Sage didn't know what to make of it. Her roommates did, though, and tried to convince her that he had feelings for her.
Exactly ten days after Sage moved to Colorado, Landon called her and told her he liked her. Sage, driving home from the church, mouthed a few bad words but responded by saying "I'm objectively attracted to you." How romantic. Neither knew what to do about it. To make matters worse, Sage's family dog passed away a few hours later and Sage booked a flight home. Needless to say, it was a manic Tuesday night in Castle Rock.
Back home, Sage avoided telling Landon they were in the same time zone and tried to process her feelings. Eventually, the Lord invited her to stop restraining her feelings and admit that she had never stopped liking Landon and that the "no" ten years prior was really a "wait." Once she returned to Colorado, she told Landon she was willing to try long distance, but made sure they were on the same page that she wasn't messing around here. He agreed and they started dating in February of 2024.
The next year was full of plane trips, phone calls, and facetimes. Sage eventually moved back to Minnesota in December and they dated like a normal couple for about four months before Landon proposed to her under her favorite willow tree at his parents' house. His dogs were jumping all around them as if they were also excited.
Sage and Landon are blown away by God's providence and timing all throughout their relationship. He waited until both of them were exactly ready for each other, not a second too soon, and has equipped them perfectly for one another with the purpose of advancing his kingdom through their marriage!!! They could not be more humbled at God's grace demonstrated in and through their relationship and they are eager to grow closer to Christ together over a lifetime (with hopefully less plane rides).
