Haldi Celebrations

The Haldi ceremony is one of the most joyous and vibrant pre-wedding rituals in Indian weddings. It usually takes place the day before the wedding and involves the application of a paste made primarily from turmeric, known as "haldi," to the bride and groom.

The application is done by family members and close friends at the bride and groom’s respective homes. Traditionally, it is believed that applying this paste purifies the couple, wards off evil spirits, and brings good fortune.

The ceremony is usually filled with laughter and music, as guests sing traditional songs and sometimes dance. It’s a playful event where participants often end up smearing haldi on each other, adding to the fun and festive atmosphere.

The ceremony will start at 10 A.M. and lunch will follow.

Attire

We want you to feel comfortable and enjoy the celebrations, so please feel free to choose whether you want to wear Indian or Western attire for each event. There is absolutely no pressure to wear Indian clothes if you are not comfortable doing so.

If you decide to wear western wear, semi-formal is encouraged for the event. Since it is a festive and colorful event, you can wear bright colors like yellow or orange.

If you decide to wear Indian wear, here are some options:

For Women: Women can opt for a salwar kameez, saree, or lehengas. Bright colors like yellow, orange, and other vibrant shades are encouraged.

For Men: Traditional options include a kurta pajama, which consists of a long tunic (kurta) and loose trousers (pajama). These are often made from light, comfortable fabrics, perfect for the playful nature of the Haldi ceremony. Kurta pajamas in shades of yellow or orange are especially fitting for this event.
