B and I met at a Chamber of Commerce networking event through our employers. I was a timid, awkward…*outside-my-comfort-zone* gal who was dragged there by her boss and coworkers (thanks, Ryan). Little did I know, the networking event was literally called “Speed Networking” - a play on speed dating. We walked in, I saw some cute guy from across the room and got even more nervous. They split us all up and we got to networking..speedily. I was a fundraising Event Planner looking for businesses to sponsor our upcoming Golf Tournament. He was a Car Lot Manager who claimed he played golf….LOL. We exchanged cards and I emailed him, because I had ONE mission with the business card of the cute guy from across the room……..get his business’ money, of course. For months…this guy would email me asking if I, the event planner, was going to play on their golf team. Their team was already full. I would constantly tell my coworkers, “you guys, the hot car guy is TOTALLY hitting on me”….as if.
He played in the tournament.
He was bad…really, really bad.
Hit-my-golf-cart-with-a-drive-while-I’m-parked-on-the-cart-path, bad.
In an UNshocking turn of events, he emailed me after they left the course. He blamed me for his poor game.
I told him if he wanted to continue talking to me, he could text me. Yes, I made the first move.
Well, you give a guy your number ONE time and he wouldn’t leave me alone! We couldn’t stop talking. We joke that we were two very similar individuals, who had been told to network in the community more. And since then, we haven’t been to many more networking events….we think the Speed Networking event turned out just fine! ❤️
