Maya and Sam seemed destined to meet despite growing up in different states. Sam’s aunt and grandmother lived in the same small Massachusetts town where Maya grew up. Their moms both went to Smith College at exactly the same time and were iconoclasts. Their dads both have environmental science backgrounds and love being on boats. They were raised on PBS. They ended up in the same freshman dorm at GWU in DC and became fast friends. Eventually they joined the same community service fraternity and became brothers.

Sam was in the ‘friend-zone’ for the next four plus years. They travelled the world separately, Maya to Cameroon, Sam to New Zealand but they kept in touch, sending letters to remind each other of how special each thought the other was.

The pandemic slowed these two globetrotters enough for their stars to align and a road trip romance began to turn these friends into lovers.
