Q + A

Will there be dedicated parking?

You can park on the street anywhere in the neighborhood. Eastlawn (our street) will probably fill up and you may need to walk a bit to get to the house.

What's the bathroom situation?

We have two bathrooms available in the house, and in addition we are renting a portable double-bathroom trailer which will be parked out front.

Will the event be wheelchair-accessible?

Unfortunately not. The backyard is accessible, but there are stairs for getting into the house as well as all the bathrooms.

Are dogs allowed?

No dogs allowed, sorry! There will be family dogs on the property, and we must minimize the animal craziness. We appreciate your understanding!

Is this a kid-friendly event?

Absolutely. We love your kids and are overjoyed to be crazy Auntie Brit and silly Uncle Sam. Just be mindful that one of the dogs on the property is a Great Dane. She can get REALLY hyper, so please tell your children to keep their distance to avoid any injury. There will be other smaller/easier dogs on the property for your kids to play with :)

Will the food accommodate my dietary constraints?

We are serving buffet-style BBQ. Many of the dishes will be gluten-free and/or vegan. Each dish will be clearly labelled with a dedicated serving spoon to avoid cross-contamination.

Can I bring a plus one?

Since this is a backyard wedding, we are asking our guests not to bring a plus one due to the limited space we have. Please reach out to the bride or groom in case you have special circumstances.

What is the theme/dress-code?

The theme is "festival fancy" - and yes, Brit made this up. Here's the deal: Think “outdoor wedding meets your coolest summer party.” Bright colors, fun patterns, and clothes you can dance in—just with a little extra flair. No need for tuxes or ballgowns, but also no cargo shorts and flip flops. Bonus points for hats, statement jewelry, or anything that makes you feel like the whimsical fairy princess or prince that you are.

What happens if it rains?

We're renting a big-ass-tent which covers the space that is dedicated for the ceremony, eating, and dancing. So we're not too worried. We're also opening up our house indoors, on all floors, for anyone who needs to take a break from outside.

When should I plan to arrive?

You are welcome to arrive as early as 4pm. The ceremony will begin at 5pm. Buffet-style dinner will be available at 6:30pm.

I'm from out of town; where should I stay?

We recommend finding an Airbnb in one of the following neighborhoods: Jefferson Chalmers (where we are located), any of the Grosse Pointes, or St. Clair Shores. There are also many hotels downtown. If you book a stay downtown, we are just a short jaunt away via Jefferson Ave.

Any local spots you'd recommend while we're in town?

Yes! For nearby food, check out: Coriander (right here in Jefferson Chalmers), The Charlevoix, Alma Kitchen. For downtown food: Johnny Noodle King, Charteuse, Grey Ghost, Honest John's. For fun: we are super close to Belle Isle, which is Detroit's own island park. Rec pass is required ($15). There is an aquarium, a conservatory, playgrounds, golfing, and plenty of space to picnic/walk around.

Where are you registered?

We have a registry right here on our TheKnot.com website. We have no preference between cash or physical gifts. You are also welcome to ship a gift yourself. Our address is 329 Eastlawn St, Detroit, MI, 48215.

Should we tip the bartenders?

Yes, please do! The drinks are free for you :)
