Do I need to speak Italian to get around?

No, we have traveled to Italy before and many locals speak English or Spanish if you need help. If you encounter someone who only speaks Italian, Google Translate can be a great communication tool.

What is the currency in Italy and should I exchange money before arrival?

The Euro is the primary currency in Italy. We recommend calling your card companies before traveling and using your digital cards. Many credit/debit cards do not have international transaction fees - check your bank's website to learn more. The fee to exchange cash can be quite pricey, so if possible, we recommend using cards.
