The easiest and most common way to get to Rome is by airplane. Chances are you'll land at the main hub, Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO), but if you're on a domestic or shorter European flight, you might touch down at Ciampino International Airport (CIA). No worries, both airports are well connected to the city center.
Now, from Fiumicino, you've got options on how to get to the city. The Leonardo Express train zips you straight to Termini, Rome's main railway station. It's quick and direct, but here's the deal – it's best if you're staying close to Termini because the station is quite chaotic. If your accommodation are elsewhere in the city center, we would recommend jumping into a taxi straight from the airport - just follow the signs to the taxi stand after exiting the baggage claim. Stick to the regular white ones; their fare to the city center is fixed at 50 Euro. If you give us a shout in advance, we can also book a taxi service for you for a similar cost.
Ciampino arrivals: There will be shuttle buses waiting to take to Termini Station. But the most convenient would be to grab a taxi outside the terminal, which has a flat rate of 30 Euro to the city center.
So, whether you're rolling with the train, taxi, or shuttle, getting from the airport to the heart of Rome is easy. At both airports you can also pick up a car from any of the large rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Europcar, etc.).
