Nina and I met at Beaumont Hospital and bonded over our interest in medicine and love of good food, warm weather, and girl talk. We've spent more time together traveling outside of Michigan than we have in Michigan. She will be graduating from medical school in May and somehow has managed to exceed all M.O.H. expectations while balancing her insanely busy schedule. I asked her to answer a few questions in her own words...
1. Where are you from?
Armada, Michigan (About 10 minutes north of Max's hometown)
2. What is one thing you cannot live without?
My boyfriend, Alex
**Edit: My fiancé, Alex
3. Share something about yourself that would help all of our wedding guests get to know you a little better.
If it's been awhile since I have been able to eat, I tend to get a little hangry.
4. What is one of your favorite memories you've shared with the bride to be?
The bride and I were at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and she made a poor shoe choice that morning and unfortunately, early in the day her sandals were causing her some serious foot pain but she had the best solution... using leaves from a nearby tree to place between her foot and shoe to provide some much needed relief.
Max and Emmy met in the womb in 1991, but I didn't meet Emmy until her wedding day (which is also what we consider our official first date!) If you ask Max what Emmy is like, you'll hear that she is "exactly like me except she's a girl" which is quite true. Emmy married Max's best friend, Devon, and they now live in Germany. Emmy is an elementary school teacher during the week and adventures all over Europe in her free time. I asked her to answer a few questions in her own words...
1. Where are you from?
Romeo, Michigan
2.What is one thing you cannot live without?
My running shoes and food
3. Share something about yourself that would help all of our wedding guests get to know you a little better.
I love to run, travel, and experience new things!
4. What is one of your favorite memories you've shared with the bride to be?
When you and Max came out to Germany to visit! It was the perfect time to travel together and get to know each other.
Stacey and I lived on the same floor at Oakland University during undergrad and bonded over our love of volleyball and hatred of running. Fast forward several years and you'll find us at your local coffee shop or breakfast joint several times each month, never having quite enough time to say all that we need to say! If you are lucky, you'll get to hear her majestic South African accent at the wedding. She is currently working in marketing by day, blogger by night. I asked her to answer a few questions in her own words...
1. Where are you from?
Port Elizabeth, South Africa
2.What is one thing you cannot live without?
My family and sadly, my phone...terrible, I know
3. Share something about yourself that would help all of our wedding guests get to know you a little better.
I'm originally from South Africa. I also write a lifestyle blog to motivate, help, and encourage teenage girls get through their struggles...think Chicken Noodle Soup for the Teenage Soul but a modern day version.
4. What is one of your favorite memories you've shared with the bride to be?
All of the times she is brutally honest with me and tells me things I need to hear.
Danielle is the name she was born with but since 7th grade, I've always known her as Cho-Choo which means beautiful (Korean) butterfly (Japanese), you can thank her family for that one. Lo and behold, the name stuck! In the last several years, she has moved from Michigan to Louisiana to New York and back to Michigan where she made home with her husband and two adorable little ones but she managed to always catch up with me whenever she found herself in town. She is currently working as a chemist in Ann Arbor and started her own company called Art By Choo (think murals, canvas paintings, extravagant Halloween makeup, etc). I asked her to answer a few questions in her own words...
1. Where are you from?
Ypsilanti, Michigan
2.What is one thing you cannot live without?
I cannot live without my family. I am a wife and mother of two beautiful children, a boy and girl ages 4 and 2...however, if you're talking materialist things: I cannot live without my COFFEE!
3. Share something about yourself that would help all of our wedding guests get to know you a little better.
I will most likely be the shortest of the bridesmaids with the grand height of 5'0''. I will also be the one always on the dance floor, either alone or with my husband.
4. What is one of your favorite memories you've shared with the bride to be?
One of my favorite memories with the bride would be my wedding day, 7/20/2012. I am blessed to have a friend like Samantha and our friendship has remained strong and consistent throughout the years since middle school. Having her by my side on my wedding day meant a great deal to me. We have seen each other go through relationships in the search of love and happiness and she was there every step of the way and stood by me on my special day. I cannot wait to do the same for her.
Nathan met Max back early in elementary school. They've shared many classes, video game parties, and travels together throughout the years. Upon graduation from high school, Nathan attended Michigan Tech University and was a Decathlete while attaining his engineering degree, and after graduating began working for Chrysler.
1. If you you had a super power, what would it be?
If I had a a super power it would be the ability to live with no sleep.
2. What is something you are surely better at than the groom?
I light of recent events I would say I am better than Max at darts.
3. What is more of an issue to you, Syrian refugees or people constantly commenting on your height?
The answer is yes.
Devon met Max in middle school, as they sat next to each other in health class. They then shared many classes together in high school, as well as playing lacrosse and being on the swim team together. After graduation from Romeo with endless hours of playing Xbox live and sports on his resume, Devon attended the West Pointe Academy and married Max's sister (Emmy). He now lives in Germany with Emmy and their dog Callie working as a Civil engineer.
1. If you had a super power, what would it be?
I already have a super power, it's the ability to sleep any and everywhere despite the responsibilities I have in any given day. I've got both the body hair and mental state of a bear hibernating in the winter.
2. What is something you are surely better at than the groom?
I'm definitely better at being shorter than the groom. When it comes to a "Face-closer-to-the-ground" competition, I have no doubt I am better.
3. What is more of an issue to you, Donald Trump as president or battling your body hair?
Donald Trump should sign an executive order addressing my body hair, that's the real situation here. Even more so than either of those issues, is my problem of responding to deadlines, hence forcing the groom to answer all these questions about me himself.
Brent met Max the first week of medical school at Wayne State after an outing of getting to know some classmates. Since that time, they had routinely split time on weekends studying for exams/discussing the menial tribulations of medical school. They also have spent time trying to catch any of the Marvel Superhero blockbusters that have been released. Brent is Canadian, so take that however you wish. He is recently engaged to his fiance (Suzy).
1. If you had a super power, what would it be?
There are so many interesting powers that one could ask for but as a male I think the ultimate power would be able to transform into a woman whenever you wanted. Think about it, when you go to the bars, drinks free, dinner date, free, arguments, always win, speeding ticket, gone. My medical school tuition would have been paid for a few times over if I had this power.
2. What is something you are surely better at than the groom?
This is a difficult question to answer since Max is talented in many areas of life. He's intelligent, athletic, creative, great cook and many other things but one thing I'm surely better than Max is picking sports team to cheer for, I mean come'on the Lions. I of course a true lover the of the black and yellow, Steelers, have seen my team win multiple Super Bowls during my life, Max…..well…… Max hasn't seen the Lions win a playoff game. We all can't be perfect but Max is close.
3. What is more of an issue to you, global warming or plateuing on deadlifts?
This is a simple question global warming, I've never plateaued on deadlifts and the day it happens I will require a spinal surgeon's opinion on my back after I did everything within my powers to prevent it from happening. But let me be clear I'm almost equally not concerned about global warming with President Donald Trump guiding the free world.
Jon met Max at Michigan State during undergrad, since Jon was the only person on the floor who had the new Halo game and Max was entranced by this. In return for playing Halo, Max offered Jon his notes from school to copy for an upcoming exam (which he returned eerily close to exam time). Since then, Jon has graciously allowed Max to accompany him and his family to Hawaii and Arizona. Jon currently serves in the US Army and lives in North Carolina.
1. If you had a super power, what would it be?
Be as good as swimming as Max.
2. What is something you are surely better at than the groom?
Not much, lol, maybe computers? But he was really good at being a Best Buy associate selling computers too.
3. What is more of an issue to you, Russian election tampering or dealing with pale skin in high sun-exposure areas?
The latter for sure (my skin is glow in the dark)
