Our story began in the spring of 2022. Both Samantha and Carlos fell for the convincing ads for the dating app Hinge. The app promised that it was meant to be deleted. “Go on your last first date” was the company’s tagline and that was the ultimate dream for both us!

Carlos had been living in Delaware for about 5 years at that point. Traveling in and out of the state for work more often than not. Samantha was working as an Ultrasound Technologist; working her usual long hours. Little did we know that on any given day we were less than 2 miles from each other. Carlos’s home was about 2 miles away from Samantha’s workplace. We belonged to the same gym in town and probably ran into each other at the grocery store throughout the years.

In spring of that year, we decided to download the app. Carlos, didn’t trust online dating and downloaded it mostly out of curiosity. Samantha, a hopeless romantic, downloaded to see if that’s where her soulmate was hiding. Because of our location’s proximity, the app matched us up almost immediately!

After a several back and forth messages throughout the course of 3 weeks, riddled with funny banter and playful teasing, we decided to meet up for our first date! Hoping this would be the last first date as the app promised.

The first date almost didn’t happen. When we got to the restaurant where we were going to meet, our cell service was non-existent. Carlos waited for her on the outside bench of the restaurant. Samantha waited for him inside of her car; waiting on a text from him, not knowing that neither of them were without cell service. Carlos thought that he had been stood up. Samantha sat in her car and thought the same.

After 10 minutes past the hour that they had agreed to meet had passed, Samantha decided to walk out of her car to walk towards the restaurant. That decision is what lead to 2 years of wonderful moments and memories.

Together, we’ve learned so much about ourselves. We have bonded over our love for travel, good food, and spontaneity. We are each other’s best friends, confidants, and soulmates. Carlos likes to say that it was the best $29.99 that he’s ever spent! (the monthly cost of Hinge)

We cant wait to celebrate June 29 with all of you, and establish this date as our forever anniversary.
