Our Story

October 2014

Our story together started at Normandy High school in October of 2014 when we were 15. Even though we went to the same school, we hadn't met before. At sophomore year homecoming, there was a boy Sam had never seen before talking to some of the guys in her homecoming group. Sam saw West, and she (still to this day) says it was love at first sight. Sam had asked the guys in her group who West was, but nothing more came out of it other than them telling her his name. We ended up not talking that night, but for weeks, Sam wanted to get to know more about West.

A few weeks later, West came to Sam’s soccer game and we were officially introduced to each other by some friends.

November 2014

Our first “date” was a dinner double date with one of our high school couple friends (but we kept it on the down low since Sam’s parents always said she wasn’t allowed to date until she was 16).

We continued to talk and see each other for a few months, but never officially dated. By the end of 2014, Sam told West she didn’t think things would work out and she wasn’t interested anymore. A few months later, Sam, being as indecisive as she is, changed her mind and tried talking to West, but he was no longer interested in dating. We continued to stay in touch now and again throughout 2015.

December 31, 2015

On New Years Eve going into 2016, Sam decided to reach out to West to tell him Happy New Year. To Sam’s surprise, West kept the conversation going. We stayed up all night talking to each other on the phone and getting to know each other all over again.

January 2016

Not long after the new year, we went on yet another “unofficial 1st date” to lunch (just as friends) after school.

A few weeks later, West asked Sam on a "official 1st date" to dinner and bowling.

After a date to the movies, West asked Sam to be his girlfriend (when we were finally 16 years old (this time, Sam's parents knew))!!

To celebrate 6 months of dating, West took Sam to the Melting Pot and to watch the sunset afterwards (which is now our favorite annual summer tradition to do together)!

West transferred to Cleveland State to work towards degree in Mechanical Engineering while Sam stayed at UC to work towards her Nursing degree.

For 2.5 years, we did long distance (which included frequently going weeks without seeing each other, lots of drives back and forth across Ohio, many late night FaceTime study dates, sacrifice from both sides, and, of course, lots of tears).

Sam graduated UC with her nursing degree and moved back to Cleveland.

There have been so many people who have played such a huge role in our relationship over the last 8 years. We are truly so grateful to be surrounded by so much love and support over the years, and we have only continued to feel this way during this season of our lives. We cant even put into words how thankful we are for all the love we have received.
We are so excited to get to celebrate our relationship and love for each other with all of you.
We are beyond excited to FINALLY be engaged and soon be
Mr and Mrs Woelfl!!
