As of August 2nd 2024, Sri Lanka temporarily suspended the online visa (eVisa) application system. Most visitors will be eligible for their visa on arrival except for passport holders of Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Ghana, Afghanistan, Cameroon, North Korea, Pakistan, Siera Leone and Syria. For visitors eligible for visa on arrival you can also complete your online arrival form up to 3 days before arrival. We suggest purchasing your SIM card at the airport after claiming your baggage. Multiple carriers are available at the airport, depending on what you wish to spend. SIM cards are not always easily available in the city, especially on a Poya day (Full Moon Religious Holiday) or any government/public holiday.

Usually the weather is typically tropical, and the temperature is in the high 20s, but it rained almost every day last year. One could say it is a mixed bag.

Sri Lankan Rupees is the local currency. However, most hotels and restaurants will ask if you want to be charged in US Dollars or Sri Lankan Rupees. It is recommended to exchange cash at the airports as this is the best rate one will get in Sri Lanka.

Most places accept Credit or Debit cards, but carrying cash for smaller stalls and outlets is recommended. That being said, ATMs are easily available in the Bentota area.
