By Plane
The closest international airports are:
- Barcelona El Prat Airport (Spain)
- Perpignan -Rivesaltes Airport (France)
For most, we recommend flying into Barcelona.
Girona also has a domestic airport, Girona-Costa Brava Airport.
By Train
From Barcelona, review the train timetables available online. We use the site rail.ninja. It's a ~40 minute direct ride that costs ~$30.
By Car
We recommend renting a car either from Barcelona or from Girona. There are a ton of cute small towns in the area that are more easily accessible by car! If you do not plan to rent a car and need transportation from Girona to the venue, let Patrick and Sam know and we will help you connect with a driver.
A few things to note:
1. Plan to have an international driver's license if you plan to rent a car.
2. Many cars are manual in this part of Spain, be sure you know how to drive a stick shift or specifically select an automatic car when making your car rental reservation.
Overall
For a more pleasant travel experience, we recommend spending 1-2 days in Barcelona and 1 day in Girona to break up your travel. They're both incredible cities with great things to explore!
Our wedding venue, Castell D'Empordà, is also a hotel that holds 57 rooms and 2 swimming pools, 20 minutes away from the beaches of the Costa Brava.
If you'd prefer not to book there, there are plenty of hotels and Airbnbs available in Emporda. We recommend staying close to the venue since the wedding festivities will go late.
