Our Wedding

Melissa and Samantha’s love story starts as many modern romances do- after matching on a dating app. However, they both made it clear they were there to make new friends. After less than a week of chatting, Melissa and Samantha met for the first time on February 6, 2023 and have been together every day since. On February 8th, they went on their first date to End of Elm, which is still one of their favorite restaurants to this day. For Melissa, it was love at first sight, and by February 9th, just three days after meeting, she took the leap of faith and asked the “straight” girl to be her girlfriend. Samantha followed her gut and without hesitation said “yes” and never looked back.

Itinerary 

AIRLINE:Avianca is the main Colombian airline and what Meli &amp; Sam always fly when visiting Colombia. If you are flying Avianca, it is important to note that the seats in economy do not recline; only business and first class have reclining seats. There are also no TVs on these flights.

ARRIVAL DATE:We suggest an arrival date on Monday, February 2nd, to best enjoy all that Medellin has to offer. Otherwise, it is best to arrive Wednesday night to allow for any delays or issues with the flight.

LANDING IN MEDELLIN:We will arrange family and friends of Meli to pick everyone up from the airport. We will provide their contact info here, so you make can arrangements with them directly. On arrival, you’ll be confronted with drivers offering to give rides to Medellín. Please use the official taxi line or Uber for a trusted driver. It’s about a 45 minute to an hour drive into Poblado area.

HOTELS:We have rooms on hold at Hotel Selis. Please message the hotel on WhatsApp at +573137664913 and tell them you are booking for our wedding to receive 15% off. If you go to the website to book it will say all the rooms are sold out. This is because we have the rooms blocked off. TRANSPORTATION TO THE WEDDING:There will be a shuttle service to and from the wedding. The venue is at the top of the mountain and requires very steep and windy roads to get there. We HIGHLY SUGGEST not taking a manual car to the wedding. Most Ubers are going to be manual cars.

POST-WEDDING:Meli &amp; Sam will only be staying in Medellin a day or two after the wedding before going on their honeymoon, but feel free to stay and explore the city as long as you'd like! (More travel tips under Q+A).

The Urban Coffee Tour in Medellin is a walking tour in the Barrio La Sierra community which includes walking up 577 steps to the top. A private coffee tour for guests who may have a more limited mobility can be provided. The tour is approximatelyn 4 hours. Reservations are required and can be made via WhatsApp +57 304 596 6599.

Explore the colorful resort town of Guatape and its surrounding lake and if you are feeling adventurous, climb the 740 stairs to the top of the famous La Piedra del Penol. As Guatape is approximately two hours by car from Medellin, this will require a full day. If you will need transportation from Medellin and would like a guided tour, companies such as <a href="www.viator.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Viator</a> and <a href="www.getyourguide.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Get Your Guide</a> offer several options.

Day Trip to Guatape

Owned and operated by members of the Escobar's family, the museum presents one version of Pablo Escobar's story through his personal artifacts, vehicles, and even furniture with built-in hiding spaces. Open daily from 9am to 6pm, the museum takes about an hour to explore.

A neighborhood now known for its colorful murals and lively street performers, La Comuna is a living testament to the transformation and growth of the city of Medellin. Once known at "Pablo Escobar's Cradle" in the 1990s and the most dangerous neighborhoods, it was the epicenter of violence, precarious houses built in the middle of hills and steep, narrow streets. Now the vibrant community is famous for its colorful graffiti murals and street art. La Comuna 13 is best visited with a tour guide to experience the area's transformation and see art that tells stories of its history and struggle. Take a free walking tour offered by <a href="https://realcitytours.com/tour/free-walking-tour/?source=direct" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Real City Tours</a> to explore the main sights in town, all while learning from a local about the history and present happenings in&nbsp;Medellín. The four hour tour must be booked ahead of time and are on a 10am and 2:30pm schedule. Tips are recommended for the guides as the tours are free.
