Pre-Wedding Gathering!

We understand that each of you have very different travel schedules prior to the wedding, so we will be hosting a "Pupu Party" (aka Hawaiian&nbsp;cocktail party)&nbsp;on Friday, May 10th @ Maui Brewing Company from 3-5&nbsp;pm where we will serve&nbsp;plenty of hors d'oeurve&nbsp;and drinks! We will be hosted on the brewery's lanai with plenty of yard games, so we recommend wearing&nbsp;casual clothing that will keep you cool in the&nbsp;island heat.&nbsp;All guests in town are invited to join!&nbsp;

Due to venue availability, we will be holding the wedding rehearsal for the bridal party following the cocktail hour at 5:30 pm.

Friday, May 10th

3:00 - 5:00 p.m.:&nbsp;All guests are invited to join the bride and groom for drinks and hors d'oerves at Maui Brewing Company

5:30&nbsp;- 6:30 p.m.: Bridal party members and parents of the bride & groom will attend the wedding rehearsal at Sugar Beach Events

Saturday, May 11

1:00&nbsp;p.m.: Bridesmaids & Bride meet at venue&nbsp;to get ready

2:30 p.m.: Groomsmen arrive at venue to get ready

4:00 -4:15 p.m.: Guests&nbsp;arrive to Sugar Beach Events

4:30 p.m.: Wedding ceremony begins

5:00 - 6:00: Cocktail hour at venue

6:00 p.m. - 10:00: Reception begins!

It all started back in the fall of 2009, when we first crossed paths: to be referred to as "Part&nbsp;One" in the story of Joe & Sam. When Joe surpassed&nbsp;the&nbsp;height of 5'8" (*cough*cough*&nbsp;his senior year of high school), Sam finally started noticing him in the hallways at&nbsp;Buckeye High. Joe was vertically challenged for the majority of his high school career, and therefore, never crossed into Sam's 5'8" line of sight until that time.&nbsp;&nbsp;After a power move from Sam, laying a one liner on one of Joe's facebook profile pictures, we connected and eventually started&nbsp;dating. After of few months of Joe being a perfect gentlemen, Sam decided to stop dating Joe (for no apparent reason) and we went our separate ways.&nbsp;











Joe left to pursue&nbsp;his business degree at Bowling Green State University, and Sam headed&nbsp;to&nbsp;Ohio State University for hers.



























Fast forward to the summer of 2012, or "Part Two" of our story. Sam was returning home after finishing her first year at Ohio State, perusing facebook, when she came across one of Joe's posts. After yet another power move from Sam,&nbsp;reaching out to Joe saying we should catch up, we set what we consider&nbsp;our true first date. It took three dates, and a not-so-subtle&nbsp;nudge&nbsp;from Sam's bestie (and Matron of Honor) Amelia, for Joe to realize that Sam was actually interested in dating him. One summer evening, on a day&nbsp;that neither of us can recall, we started dating again. If we would've known back then that this is where we would be now, I&nbsp;bet we would've tried a little harder to remember that date... &nbsp;

How We Met

Sam and her dad spend the weekend of the NCAA&nbsp;DI wrestling championships together every year - and this year, the championship was hosted&nbsp;in Cleveland. Even though Joe did not have tickets to the events,&nbsp;he decided he'd tag along to the trip&nbsp;to see&nbsp;his dad and friends&nbsp;at home.&nbsp;About 3 weeks before the trip, Sam's dad texts her asking if he could give her&nbsp;ticket to&nbsp;one of his friends for the Friday morning matches. Without hesitation (or suspicion), she gave up her ticket for that morning and made plans with her friend Amelia to get her nails done. Amelia and Sam&nbsp;get their nails done together every single time she's back in town, so this was nothing out of the ordinary (Sam ironically&nbsp;scheduled this herself). Joe convinces Sam to spend that afternoon at his Dad's house prior to, what Sam thought she'd&nbsp;be, heading back to Cleveland to meet her dad for the evening wrestling&nbsp;session.

We got in the car to head to downtown Cleveland for the late matches, and Joe rattles off this story about how his Dad dedicated a bench to his Oma (shout out to that lovely lady) at the local park, and asked to stop by and see it on our way. Sam thought that was such a cool thing to do,&nbsp;and&nbsp;agreed to go to the park.&nbsp;Hindsight is 20/20 here, she totally should've been getting suspicious.&nbsp;









We got out of the car, and&nbsp;Sam is&nbsp;avidly searching for a bench. No joke, this park&nbsp;did not have a single bench in sight. Joe points out a dock about 15 feet away, overlooking the park lake, and Sam's mind starts racing.







-&nbsp;Our second and most memorable date&nbsp;back in 2012&nbsp;ended with a night of star gazing on a dock.... overlooking a lake....&nbsp;in a park like this.... -&nbsp;







We head down to the dock, Joe pulls a "look out at the late, let me take a picture of you" line, and all the sudden he's down on one knee giving the most thoughtful and romantic speech before ending with, "Will you marry me?".





As if that wasn't enough, Joe had&nbsp;dinner planned for us at the restaurant that we had our first date AND&nbsp;a surprise party back at my parents house with all of our family and friends from near and far.&nbsp;



We ended the night with&nbsp;many&nbsp;tears of happiness, lots of&nbsp;laughter, and way too&nbsp;many beers.&nbsp;

The Proposal

If you are reading this as a invitee to our celebration,&nbsp;you are also a significant part of our&nbsp;story. Somewhere along the way, you've provided us encouragement, advice, friendship, support (or all of the above) that made our story one for the books. &nbsp;We cannot thank you enough.

We are excited to have you stand with us,&nbsp;as we make our&nbsp;promise to forever, in the most magical place we can imagine.&nbsp;&nbsp;In the meantime, we highly recommend brushing up on your Hawaiian lingo, practicing your shaka,&nbsp;and rewatching Moana (maybe even a few times) to be properly prepared for this adventure.&nbsp;MAHALO, friends and family! We cannot wait to celebrate with you soon.

Travel and Transportation

Flights

The largest&nbsp;airport on Maui is&nbsp;Kahului Airport (OGG). We recommend flying into this airport, as they will&nbsp;have the lowest prices and closest proximity to the wedding.

We plan to be in Maui from 5/8/2019 - 5/18/2019&nbsp;and hope to spend time with anyone else that chooses to extend their trip after the wedding.&nbsp;

Transportation

Since we cannot provide traditional transit for all&nbsp;guests, we have created an UberEvents code that will allow us to pay for your Uber&nbsp;ride to and from the venue on the day of our wedding.&nbsp;

Due to the size of our wedding, we are not able to reserve room blocks. We understand that many of our guests are making a trip out of the wedding weekend, and want to be sure that everyone is staying in a location they are most &nbsp;happy.&nbsp;

Things to Do

We have gathered a list of fun things to do around the island. As you plan your "Things to Do", please be mindful of the locations and drive times for each of these activities. Not all items listed here are local to the wedding location.

Wailea Beach

This shoreline caters to the sun-seeking guests of several nearby resorts. The tawny-colored sand is lined by palm trees and a paved walkway connecting the shoreline to the area's hotels, shops and restaurants. What's more, visitors to this beach will have access to water sports equipment rentals. And because the waters here are relatively calm, Wailea Beach is great for those looking to swim or snorkel.

Snorkeling Molokini Crater

Molokini features&nbsp;flourishing marine life in exceptionally clear water with visibility in excess of 150 feet. Since&nbsp;Molokini is rock, there is&nbsp;no soil to wash down into the water. Absent of sediment, the water is very&nbsp;clear allowing excellent viewing of the local marine life.&nbsp;Excursions travel to the&nbsp;middle of Molokini where the&nbsp;reef is protected from waves and surges.

Road to Hana

To find excellent views of Maui's beautiful coastline, all you need to do is drive. The Road to Hana is a scenic highway (Highway 360)&nbsp;that twists through the lush rainforest and past the cascading waterfalls that line the island's eastern shore.&nbsp;There are so many must see locations along this route! We highly recommend doing some research to map out all the stops you'd like to take: waterfalls, hidden beaches, local shops, etc. The Road to Hana is well worth the trip!

Old Lahaina Luau

Old Lahaina Luau takes great pride in presenting an authentic Hawaiian Luau. An evening of traditional Hawaiian cuisine, music, cultural dances and demonstrations. Guests will appreciate a genuine reflection of Hawaii's rich history while enjoying an ocean view and sunset.

Hiking the Bamboo Forest

Maui's bamboo forest along the Pipiwai Trail is a majestic sight indeed, and well worth the&nbsp;hike to get there!&nbsp;This trail has so much more than "just" the bamboo forest.&nbsp; Along the way you'll pass several waterfalls and pass over a few sketchy (but safe! ish)&nbsp;bridges.&nbsp;When the wind blows, the sounds of the bamboo stalks bumping into one another is almost musical. This is a must see on your Road to Hana day trip!
