Kurtis and Sam met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 20, 2010 and have been inseperable ever since.

Sam and Kurtis planned a holiday "Ugly Sweater" potluck on December 13, 2014. When Sam stepped out of the kitchen, all of her closest friends were holding candles, in a dark room, in front of the family's Christmas tree. As she got closer, confused, she saw Kurtis standing in front of the tree. Tears in his eyes, he pulled her closer, told her how much she meant to him, and got down on one knee. He asked her to be his wife, and she happily said yes.
