Our Wedding

“I like your pants!” became “I love you,” and when I love you couldn't hold all he meant, it was said yet another way: “Samantha, will you marry me?” The same truth, spoken in increasingly truer ways—until death do us part. God started something under those red neon lights. The glow of the bar’s LED wall signs pierced our souls in a way Sunday morning sun through stained glass never could. We learned what happens when kids dance in lines on lacquered wood, with boots that scuff the floor and the heart. When I met Peter, my phone wallpaper read: “Churches are good for prayer, but so are garages and cars and mountains and showers and dance floors.” Peter is the answer to this prayer in flesh and blood. He is a man of prayer—knelt bedside lament AND dance floor adoration. God takes our prayers seriously (perhaps especially those that light up 20 times a day). My wallpaper is still that same quote, but it now looks like this:

Our story can be told two ways. We met at a bar. We met through church friends. God knows I love a good juxtaposition—the kind that tells the real story. The kind that reveals a more accurate, biting truth. Contrasting ideas or materials that are more striking together than they are on their own. I’ve come to see that the contrast between Peter and I is on purpose. Like patchwork cotton and black leather. Avocado sushi and a silicone checkers board. A satin dress and Nikes. Salt and pepper. Or even—vibrant spray paint and cold California sand.

Our Story

"We're getting Hitched!"

We didn’t put this on our save the dates to be coy. We mean it. A wedding of Sam’s would not be complete without a cameo from <a href="http:" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Dictionary.com</a>... HITCHnoun: problem, difficultyverb: join, fasten Marriage is a problem or difficulty when treated as a noun (a thing), but as a verb (an action), it joins and fastens. definition 7: 'a fastening that joins a movable tool to the mechanism that pulls it' Marriage is the fastening that joins a movable tool (Peter &amp; Sam) to the mechanism that pulls it (God).&nbsp; definition 1: 'to fasten or tie, especially temporarily, by means of a hook, rope, strap, etc.' At first, I didn’t like reading the word “temporary,” but it is. Marriage is temporary in light of eternity. AND until then, Peter &amp; I are after fastening in all fashions—hook, rope, strap. Time together, time alone, time with y'all, time with God.&nbsp; So, I say it again: We’re Getting Hitched!
