Our Wedding

Kyle and Sam first met when Sam was bartending at Whiskey Junction in 2016. Kyle caught her eye the very first time she saw him, but he was a bit shy, or something. Who knows. December 2017: After a long and entertaining conversation on her birthday, Sam gave Kyle her phone number. He did not get the hint, and thought it was just so that he could call her about a house party that night, so called and said there was no party, and then never called again. There was an attempt to meet up tailgating in Iowa City via Snapchat, but Iowa City becomes a dead zone on game day, so our attempt was met with failure. Mid-2019: Sam finally realized that this "Jan and Oscar" her parents kept asking her about were Kyle's parents. Sam ran into Kyle and informed him that our parents are good friends and have been for years. Kyle said something along the lines of "No shit!" and laughed. Sam went home. Fall of 2019: Sam realized that she needs to take a more direct approach with Kyle and asked him to meet her for drinks and darts after work. That night happened to be Kyle's birthday and the last night of the End Zone, so Kyle had partied pretty hard. Kyle realized it was time to go home and bad the bad decision to try to get home himself. Sam thought he lived near our friend, Sarah, so she arranged for Sarah to take Kyle home. Sarah and Kyle did not live near each other at all, but Sarah was a good sport. There's plenty more entertaining parts to this story, but that's for another time. Somehow Kyle got the hint after this, and he and Sam started dating, finally becoming an official couple in October, 2019. It only took us 3 years, but we got there eventually!

Sister of the bride. Nikki understands Sam in ways only a sister could. From babysitting Sam to becoming her best friend, Nikki has always been there for life's ups and downs!

Sister-in-law of the bride, mother to the cutest little lady in the whole wide world. Stephanie always makes sure that distance isn't a problem by welcoming Kyle and Sam to their home for visits, allowing us to be involved in each other's lives.

Anytime Sam needs to vent or bitch about something, or discuss something in the science or true crime realm, Elizabeth has her back.

Holly is a friend that is always ready to dive into a deep conversation, whether it be at Whiskey Junction or during a walk amongst nature.

Kristal made an extra effort to get to know Sam and make her feel welcome when meeting all of Kyle's friends. She always made sure that Sam was included, and has become a great friend.

None of this would be possible without Heather! Heather is such a welcoming person. She will befriend anyone, and always wants everyone included. Heather helped Sam get the job as a bartender (with no bartending experience) at Whiskey Junction, where Sam and Kyle met. That act of kindness changed Sam's entire life.

Brent's quirky personality is quite entertaining, and Sam thought Nikki would get a kick out of him, so Brent and Nikki will be walking down the aisle together.

Joe is the quieter, more reserved brother of the groom. Despite this, he's still quite social, so Sam thought he would be a good choice to have walk down the aisle with Stephanie.

Jeff is a life-long friend of Kyle's. He's always there to help in any situation, and will make sure there's some Van Halen playing to set the mood straight. Jeff will be walking down the aisle with his wife, Kristal :)

For those who are traveling and may need something to do, Sam would suggest checking out the UNI Botanical Center on campus. Its open Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. Sam worked there the entire time she was a student at UNI. They have a great collection of plants, and its free! If you go, tell the parrots hello from Sam. :)

Want some exercise and fresh air while you stay? The Rail Trail is paved and great for walking, running, and biking. Sam finds all sorts of interesting plants and critters on this trail! There are several entrance points between Waverly and Denver, and the trail continues on to Readlyn.
