Seven years ago, my friend invited a few of my friends & I up to her college sorority house to celebrate her birthday. I was suppose to go on a date with a guy, but canceled the date & went to TCNJ instead. My fiancé, Nick, was home on winter break from TCNJ, but lived in the area. He had made other plans, but ended up at TCNJ too. I sat across from him while we played a game, but we didn't talk until hours later after he asked me to dance in a basement of a fraternity house. I ended up leaving him on the dance floor and went upstairs to find my friends. When I got up there, they asked why I left him and told me to go get him so when I turned around to go downstairs, Nick was walking up the steps. I joked that he was following me, he laughed & said that he wasn't, but he leaned in and kissed me. Since then, we've been by each other's side through it all. We graduated from TCNJ together, I graduated from grad school and became a Physical Therapist and Nick started his career in law enforcement. This past year, we bought our first house together. In October, Nick was assigned a new position and was required to leave for training for 4 months starting in January. The night before he left, we planned on cooking a nice dinner together with steak, king crab, and scallops. During dinner, he asked what type of ring I like because we were talking about how my coworker got engaged the night before. So, he walked over to my side of the table to see the ring, looked at it and said looks nice and gave me back my phone. I turned around to continue eating but saw out of the corner of my eye, Nick bending down on one knee. He looked at me and said "does the ring look something like this?" And then asked "will you marry me?" My initial response was "is this for real" because I was so surprised but said "yes of course" and we are now planning our wedding for exactly one year from the day he proposed (January 13, 2018) which is also the anniversary of one of our first dates!
