Sam and Corey met by chance after a power outage caused her to walk across the street to her mom, Joan's house. Corey was there meeting the dogs, because he was going to help care for them for a few days. Corey's smile caught Sam's attention, so she reached out to him later that day.

Sam and Corey both quickly knew they had found the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with. After having an engagement ring for months, (Sam later found out this ring had traveled on many different trips) Corey asked Sam to marry him during a beautiful weekend trip with their dog Cookie at a little cabin in VT.
