Fremont Street (Downtown)

425 E Fremont St, Las Vegas, NV 89101
If you’ve been to Las Vegas and you haven’t been to Fremont Street, you haven’t been to Las Vegas, you've only been to the Las Vegas Strip. Fremont Street is the beating heart of downtown Las Vegas, and is the second most famous street in Las Vegas after the Strip, but not because of historical significance:
This road is as old as Las Vegas; it was founded in 1905 and was the first road in the city to be paved. The city’s first traffic light was installed right there in 1931, but its three lights weren’t the only ones to make history around here. Las Vegas was the first city in all of Nevada to have electricity, and Fremont Street benefited especially. In 1937 it was “invaded” by lights thanks to the electricity generated by the nearby Hoover Dam, and earned the nickname "Glitter Gulch".
While the Las Vegas Club which was home to the famous "Glitch Gulch" sign, has been demolished to make room for a new casino; Circa, if you visit Fremont Street you'll see that the nickname "Glitter Gulch" is still very accurate.
The Strip - Las Vegas Blvd

For those of you who enjoy bright lights, fancy, celebrity chef-owned restaurants, losing money, and paying our state taxes, this is the place for you! I joke, of course, as everyone should experience LVBLVD once in their life.
But beware of 2 things:
1. Vegas was built by the mob and designed for you to lose.
2. Everything on the strip looks much closer than it is.
Take a Uber/Lyft or a cab. You'll thank me later.
Tule Springs/Floyd Lamb Park - Rental car only adventure

9200 Tule Springs Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89131
Now a city park, this site started as a stage stop, then was a working ranch, and finally became a dude ranch that specialized in letting wannabe divorcees establish Nevada residency.
1931, Nevada lowered the time required to establish state residency to only six weeks. At a time when many other states had made divorces almost impossible to obtain, Nevada had already liberalized its divorce laws, and a “Nevada divorce” had become notorious among celebrities and the well-heeled. The reduced residency time made this option available to a lot more people, and a cottage industry sprang up to accommodate those needing to become temporary Nevadans.
The grounds are shady and park-like, with big lawns, fish ponds, and exotic birds such as peacocks wandering around. The old ranch buildings are largely whitewashed brick, which probably made them bearable during the Las Vegas summer even before air-conditioning. Lots of photographs and informational signs tell about the “divorce ranch” years.
Divorce ranches faded away in the early 1960s as other states liberalized their divorce laws. The area was acquired as a city park by Las Vegas in 1964, which (after some vicissitudes) remains today. It was renamed for former state senator Floyd Lamb in the late 1970s, and the name has stuck—despite Lamb having been convicted of bribery in 1983.

Hoover Dam is worth a visit.
On your way to and from Hoover Dam, you will pass through an incredible little town called Boulder City, the city was established while building the dam, and some of the houses here are the actual bungalows that the workers lived in.
Boulder City has a free Museum that is open to the public, it is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is located inside the historic Boulder Dam hotel.
The museum tells the story of how the dam was built and features actual equipment that was used during the historic build that began construction in 1931 and ended in 1935. Many men were killed during this construction, and it took over 21,000 men to complete the project. If you're taking a trip to the dam it is worth a stop at this museum for the tour to learn more about the place you're about to visit. The museum also features a speakeasy, located in the basement of the hotel, Cleveland's lounge opens at 4:30 p.m. daily.
Boulder City also features many antique stores and adorable mom-and-pop shops, as well as some great little cafes for breakfast, and features an awesome nightlife with live bands.
It is in Boulder City where Joe and I discovered the Sonic Shakers; the band that will be playing at our wedding reception.
If you choose to do this activity, we encourage you to make a day of it, start with breakfast at one of the great little cafes, the check out a shop or two in Boulder City, and either do the dam or the museum first and end the evening with dinner in Boulder City and a drink at the speakeasy located in the museum or one of the many local bars.
The name of the dive bar that Joe and I first discovered our band is called the Backstop, we do warn you it is a complete dive. But is our vibe, cheap drinks, old-fashioned pizzeria booths, pool tables, and on Friday and Saturday nights they almost always have a good band playing live music.

Rhyolite Ghost Town/Beatty/Death Valley - Rental car only adventure

Rhyolite is a ghost town in Nye County. It is in the Bullfrog Hills, about 120 miles (190 km) northwest of Las Vegas, near the eastern boundary of Death Valley National Park. The town began in early 1905 as one of several mining camps that sprang up after a prospecting discovery in the surrounding hills. During an ensuing gold rush, thousands of gold-seekers, developers, miners and service providers flocked to the Bullfrog Mining District. Many settled in Rhyolite, which lay in a sheltered desert basin near the region's biggest producer, the Montgomery Shoshone Mine. There is also a house built entirely out of glass bottles in Rhyolite and is cool to see. The town is in ruins, but you can see the remains of old buildings, including a bank, train depot and many other storefronts.
If you take the trip to Rhyolite, you should pass through a small town called Beatty. It is known as the Gateway to Death Valley and is located just over 100 miles northeast of Las Vegas—a go-to stop along the Death Valley Rally and Free-Range Art Highway road trips—the town of Beatty Nevada is perfectly situated to be an official gateway to Death Valley National Park.

Check out a dispensary...

Recreational marijuana is legal in the state of Nevada, there are many dispensaries where you can go and buy it over the counter as if it were alcohol. For those of you who are coming from States where it is illegal to do this, it might be cool for you to experience this activity.
If you are not an everyday smoker, we encourage you to speak with the Budtender at the dispensary, who will help you find a lower THC strain and discuss the different terpenes found in marijuana, their medical benefits, and the way they will make you feel. Some of our favorite strains are:
Jealousy - (they should have named this world peace), this is one of our favorites.
APD - (Alien Pineapple Dog Shit) - this is a lower THC strain, but the terpenes are incredible, it is a very balanced, floaty, happy, giggly yet body relaxed high. This one of Sami's favorite strains at the moment.
Ghost Train Haze - Sativa that is full of fun, giggly, floaty, talkative terpenes. Sami's second favorite at the moment.
Jack Herer - he is known as the Emperor of Hemp and this is some seriously good flower. But beware... It will creep up on you.
Dolato - this is a Bellushi Farm strain. Only found at Jade dispensary here in Las Vegas. But, if you're a serious smoker this is the one for you. This is one of Joe's favorite strains at the moment.
Lemon Essence - Fast, hard hitting high, it fades quickly, but if you're looking to get high and not stay high for too long, this is one of Joe's favorites.
No matter what you purchase, you will be satisfied, as there is no such thing as bad weed anymore. Any marijuana you buy from a dispensary is going to be premium, no sticks and stems, but if you find a seed, we called dibs. Lol.
We do however encourage you to go to a dispensary that is not located on Las Vegas boulevard or near it for the best deals.
Some of our favorite dispensaries are:
Jade - they sell Jim Belushi strains.
Rise - we've been buying $35 halves here.
Nevada Made- great deals on tincture and flower, sometimes RSO is on sale for as little as $13.
Exhale - great flower, good prices.
Show grow - a little pricey but they're flower is excellent.
Oasis - If pre-rolls are more your speed, Oasis is where you should go. They feature $4.20 prerolls on a daily basis, however this dispensary is located in a semi-sketchy neighborhood.
Planet 13 - this is the largest dispensary in the world, it also includes a consumption lounge where you can smoke freely. However, no alcohol is served at this lounge or any other consumption lounge in Las Vegas.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Dispensaries accept cash only and it is proper etiquette to tip your Budtender.
