Our Wedding

Sam and Jake were high school sweethearts; the perfect small town love story. Although a county apart, Sam and Jake met initially through a long distance learning Spanish class hosted by Perrin-Whitt CISD junior year. Jake being the only guy in the class, and Sam being the only girl on her side of the screen, it was no wonder they caught each other's attention (Sam's bright green cheerleading outfit helping some). Sam and Jake were finally able to meet in person on a field trip, and were naturally drawn to each other. After sharing phone numbers, driving an hour back and forth on winding country roads nearly every weekend to spend time each other was worth it. Several proms, football games, church camps, and adventures with family later, the couple made their way to Aggieland to attend Texas A&amp;M University.

How We Met

There are high expectations placed on men to give a romantic and heartfelt proposal, and without a doubt, Jake exceeded any expectations that Sam might have had. Anxious all summer, Jake waited until the last day of the Winingham family vacation to propose in Cancun, Mexico in August of 2015. He woke Sam up early to catch the sun rising over a blue green ocean, and walk down a white sand beach etched with the tracks of sea turtles. When he asked her to marry him, Sam worried that the family would think they were too young, but knew in her heart that God had chosen Jake to be hers, and she his. Tears in their eyes but smiles on their faces, she said yes! After a random couple in swimsuits took their picture, Sam and Jake made the announcement to the family, hand in hand all the way to the airport.

How He Proposed

Currently, Jake is completing his Biomedical Science degree with intentions to obtain a Master's Degree in Microbiology starting in the fall of 2017. Sam is on her last year of nursing school from Texas A&amp;M Health Science Center and will graduate with both and R.N. and B.S.N. this summer. Plans for now include remaining in the Bryan/College Station area while and building their new lives together one step at a time!
