About Brett

I was born in San Luis Obispo, California but call Newport my hometown after moving there when I was 2 years old. I worked construction for my dad from a little kid all the way through college and am now working in the aerospace industry. I graduated from Western Oregon University with a B.S. in Business Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship. I was excited to move to Portland with Samara after finding out that she was accepted into medical school. When I'm not busy with work, I enjoy spending time with our dogs Jasper and Wi-Fi, as well as getting outdoors and anything with an engine, but most importantly, snuggling with my sweetheart.

About Samara

I was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon. I attended Oregon State University and received a B.S. in Nutrition before heading to to medical school in Portland. I am finishing up my third year of medical school and look to graduate in June 2018! When I'm not busy with medical school, or rather when I make time in my schedule, I enjoy training for and racing triathlons and snuggling in with Brett, our dog children, and a good book.

How we met

We met freshman year of college, we happened to have calculus together as well as lived in the same dorm. We spent time around each other in the lobby playing ping pong and piano. We became great friends over the year and decided to date the summer after meeting, and things have just written themselves after that.

Our Engagement Story

We had been dating for about 3 years when I took her on a trip to the coast in the vette on a beautiful day, she thought it was just another day trip that summer but I had something up my sleeve, or in my back pocket... We arrived at Cape Perpetua Overlook on July 19th of 2013 which luckily was a gorgeous day on the coast. I took her hand and told here we were going for a little hike to a viewpoint, we ended up at the rock shelter built in 1933 on a cliff about 800 feet elevation which has an unbelievable view. Sadly there were people there when we got there and I wanted it to be just us, so we stopped there for a little bit taking in the view and continued on the path know that I would have to get her back there. About half a mile later we were getting close to parking lot so I decided we should turn around and head back, of course she heard a car pass and said we should keep going, it looks like it just loops back to the parking lot. I somehow got her to follow me back to where we came from and when we arrived at the rock shelter the second time, it was just us and the perfect moment. I got down on one knee on the sharp rocks and asked my best friend if she would marry me, the look on her face was priceless.
