How It All Started

During the spring 2011 semester at Georgia College, Sammy was a sophomore Zeta Tau Alpha and Alex was a freshman, pledging Delta Sigma Phi. As a pledge, Alex and his pledge brothers decided to provide some entertainment for the older fraternity brothers by performing a half time show dance during the Super Bowl. Wanting to perform top-notch choreography, the guys agreed to call in some help. That help happened to be Sammy! After helping the Delta Sig pledges with their moves, Alex and Sammy quickly became friends and discovered they had quite a few mutual friendships that brought them even closer together. During the next year, Alex and Sammy attended many of the same socials, parties, had a class together, and even started hanging out in the same friend group.

At the end of the 2013 school year, the majority of that friend group had apartment leases end and had no where to go for the summer. Everyone was basically homeless expect for one dear friend who had extra rooms in her house. So naturally Nassim, Taylor, Lily, Michelle, Alex, and Sammy all piled into Laura's house for the summer. That summer was filled with movie nights, pool days, discrete flirting, and hitting downtown Milledgeville. One night while watching a band play in the infamous Capital City, Alex decided to ask Sammy to dance.

And that dance was it- three years later, they were engaged...

The Proposal

*Preface* - Sammy's parents asked her to come to Waynesboro for a special "Dove Grill" to welcome the new neighbors to the pond. Alex said he couldn't come because he had to work. Sammy believed both of these "stories" with no question.

So on Friday, September 30th, Sammy drove down to Waynesboro for the "dove grill." When Sammy arrived at home that night, her mom, Shelly, asked her if she would take her youngest sister, Lexi, dress shopping on Saturday morning before the neighbors came over Saturday night. Sammy was very excited to have a sister shopping day with Lexi and their middle sister, Stevie.

Saturday morning, Sammy was woken up (wayyy too early) by Shelly, Lexi, and Stevie sitting on the foot of her bed, (aggressively) encouraging her to wake up and get ready for "shopping day." Sammy was none too pleased to be woken up that early on a Saturday morning, but she reluctantly got up and got ready (really quickly due to Shelly constantly telling her to hurry up).

Right before Sammy, Stevie, and Lexi were about to leave for their "sister shopping day" Shelly asked them to stop by the store to grab some things for the "dove grill" before they went shopping. Sammy, again, was none too pleased because she was starving and wanted to get to Augusta and eat breakfast. After spending way too much time in Wal Mart, the girls got back in the car to realize that Stevie had left her cell phone at home. Stevie insisted that they go all the way back to the house and get it. At this point, Sammy was very mad at Stevie.

As Stevie pulled into the driveway, she put the car in park and asked Sammy to put on a blindfold. Sammy , still angry, could only find the words, "Why do you have a blindfold in your purse?!" After a brief argument and lots of questioning (Lexi has the whole thing on video), Sammy put on the blindfold and Stevie drove to the house.

With Stevie and Lexi on each side, they walked Sammy down to their family pond house, sat her in a chair, and placed a book in her hands. When Stevie took the blindfold off, Sammy could not believe what she saw. The pond house was decorated SO beautifully- fresh flowers, white table clothes, and pictures of Sammy and Alex all around.

Sammy then looked at what was in her hands- it was a hand made (by Alex) scrapbook of their relationship. The last page had an extremely sweet message with the last sentence telling her to turn around. When Sammy turned around, there Alex was! So. Many. Tears.

Alex then said the most wonderful proposal Sammy could ever imagine and got down on one knee. Of course Sammy immediately said yes (through the tears)! The ring was SO pretty!

Next thing Sammy knew, fire works were going off and her family ( most of which she didn't even know were in town) was running out of the house to congratulate them. Then a few minutes later, Alex's family arrived all the way from Alpharetta to celebrate!

Both families celebrated for the rest of the morning with coffee, champagne, breakfast (Sammy's favorite), and celebratory toasts.

Alex hit it out of the park.
