Mt. Monadnock is a great hike that is local and less intensive than the White Mountains. The mountain is bald-faced so you'll get 360-degree views of the surrounding forest. On a clear day you may be able to see the Boston skyline from the peak!

Another great National Park to visit during autumn is Acadia, Maine. Known for its colors, cliffs, and quant coastal towns like Bar Harbor.
