Brisbane is the capital city of the state of Queensland. It is one of the most sprawled out cities in all of Australia.
At the heart of Brisbane is the Brisbane Central Business District (CBD) and surrounding areas are broken up into 'suburbs'.
Most wedding events will be occurring in the South-Western suburbs of Brisbane called Forest Lake and Forestdale.
In April, Australia will be in Autumn and past the peak of its heat. In saying that, Queensland is known to be the 'Sunshine State' and Brisbane can still reach up to temperatures of 29/30 degrees Celsius with lows of 18 degrees.
Brisbane International Airport (BNE) is Brisbane's main airport.
From here it is about 30 minutes into the city via drive (Uber/Didi/ Ola/ Lyft/ Black and White cabs) and about 40 minutes to Radha's home.
If you plan on getting around via public transport, we recommend staying in these central Brisbane suburbs (or surrounding suburbs):
- Brisbane City
- South Brisbane
- South Bank
- West End
- Spring Hill
- Fortitude Valley
These suburbs are a 20 minute drive/40 minute train ride to where the main wedding events are occurring. These areas are also rich in activities to do and (veg/vegan -friendly) places to eat. You will have plenty to do in your spare time!
We have found Airbnb to be the cheapest option.
From these central Brisbane suburbs you can:
- Get a train to Richlands Station
- Get a bus to Forest Lake Bvd at Forest Lake, stop B
These stops are the closest to Radha's house and arrangements can be made to pick you up.
If renting a car, we recommend car hire companies like SIXT or HolidayAutos. In Australia, we drive on the same side of the road as the UK. If you hold British driving licence it will be valid in Australia.
Hiring a car is a good way to be able to see more of the surrounding areas in Brisbane such as the beaches, rainforests and mountains which can range from 1-2 hours away from central Brisbane.
If renting a car, options of accommodation are wider and potentially cheaper (with the added cost of the car hire).
We recommend staying in any southern or south western suburbs of Brisbane (all of which are about 20-40 minutes drive to the wedding locations).
If feeling more adventurous, you could stay further down the coast nearer to the Gold Coast by the beach (this would be around a 40 - 60 minute drive to the wedding location). Staying closer to the Gold Coast would mean you can be closer to the rainforests, beaches and waterfalls.
Please feel free to get in contact with Radha if any further advice is needed regarding accommodation or transport.
