Our Wedding

No kidding, there we were in a land where history and legend intertwined.  We were at the grand gathering known as the Pennsic War. This magical place, with its pavilions, banners, and people from all over the realms. A place of fellowship, skill, and stories waiting to be told. Among those returning to this enchanted event were Jon, known in the SCA as Pandaulf, and Sara, known in the SCA as Serafina, both with a love of service and oft found on the Thrown Weapons range.     How did she end up there? Sara found herself on the range because Clockwork brought her to a Carolingian practice, introducing her to the land of Thunk.  There, she learned the fabled phrase, “Robin Hooding” and met her campmate, Eadyth at the practice.  Just a few weeks later, at that Pennsic, Eadyth said, “There’s a beginner’s class this morning, come, join me.” Sara did, and just two weeks later was a Marshal.    The following year, Jon who had a particular fondness for the arts of thrown weapons, and as was his custom, made his way to the range where throwers tested their skill. Upon arriving, he was warmly greeted by his old friends, Colin and Eadyth. They were not alone, however, for with them stood a lady of striking intelligence, beauty, and grace, her eyes sparkling with wisdom and kindness. Her name was Sara, known in the SCA as Serafina.   With a proud smile, Colin and Eadyth introduced her as the best new marshal in years, a description that made Jon's heart stir with interest and admiration. He knew that Eadyth and Colin would not use words like that lightly.  From the moment they met, Jon and Sara felt a connection, as though they had known each other for a lifetime. They began to talk, their voices weaving a conversation that felt as natural as breathing.   They spoke of their shared passions, of lives examined, of adventures past, and of dreams of the future. Time seemed to stand still as they laughed and shared stories, the rest of the world fading into the background. But as all magical moments must, theirs was interrupted when Sara remembered she had other plans for the day, a prior engagement elsewhere in the vastness of Pennsic.   Though the gathering was enormous, with over twelve thousand souls from far and wide, fate worked its magic again. The plans Sara had were with someone from Jon’s very own camp. So, with a smile and a quick exchange of glances, Jon offered to escort her. Together they walked through the bustling paths of Pennsic, the world around them buzzing with activity. But to Jon and Sara, it felt like they were in their own little world, where the conversation flowed effortlessly as if the words had been waiting for just this moment to be spoken.   As they arrived at their destination, they found that the radiant lady Iya whom Sara was meant to meet was running late. This twist of fate granted them even more time together. They stood there, talking and laughing, their connection growing. The magic of Pennsic, it seemed, had woven their fates together in a way that neither could have anticipated.   Eventually, Sara had to keep her plans, and with great reluctance, they parted ways, but Jon felt the spark of deep connection - something he hoped would bring them back together again. And in the magical realm of Pennsic, where anything is possible, he knew deep in his heart that this was not the end of their story, but only the beginning of a grand and beautiful adventure.   As the year passed, the magic of Pennsic lingered in Jon and Sara's hearts. Though the War itself lasted only two enchanted weeks, the connection they had formed did not fade when the tents came down and the kingdom’s banners were packed away. During the fifty-week town run between Pennsics, Jon and Sara kept in touch, occasionally exchanging messages that reminded them of the special bond they shared.   Though their lives in the mundane world were busy, filled with the daily responsibilities and duties of their respective realms, they found moments to reach out to each other. Each message carried a bit of the magic they had discovered at Pennsic, and with each exchange, their connection grew stronger. They shared stories, laughter, and the little details of their lives, slowly uncovering the layers of their shared interests and kindred spirits.   When the next Pennsic approached, Jon was filled with excitement, eager to return to the magical realm where he had first met Sara. He planned to teach classes at the thrown weapons range, contributing his skill to the gathering. But as fate would have it, just days before the War, Jon had to cancel his plans. With a heavy heart, he informed Sara, knowing she would need to make adjustments as the coordinator of the range.   Little did they know, however, that this unexpected twist would lead to something even more magical.   Sara herself had not been spared by the capricious winds of fate. Upon arriving at Pennsic, she was struck low by plague, which left her unable to fully enjoy the excitement and bustle of the event. Unable to spend her days amid the action, she found herself sitting quietly in her tent, far from the heart of the War she loved so dearly.   But there was a silver lining to this cloud. For Jon and Sara, this quiet time became a bridge between their worlds. Every day, they talked, sharing stories and experiences from across the distance. Through Sara’s words, Jon was able to live vicariously, feeling the pulse of Pennsic through her eyes, while she, in turn, found comfort in their conversations, which distracted her from the discomfort of her illness.   Day by day, they discovered how much their lives overlapped. They realized that their interests, passions, and even their unique forms of geekiness were like an intricate Venn diagram, where their hearts and minds met in perfect harmony. They spoke of their histories and dreams, of their hopes and fears. Slowly, they uncovered not just similarities, but a shared understanding—a deep connection that went so far beyond the surface.   From that Pennsic onward, Jon and Sara began to talk almost every day. What had started as a friendship born of shared moments has blossomed into something deeper. They became each other’s first and best support, their source of comfort in times of need. They were equals in every way, partners in spirit, and together, they faced the world with a deep appreciation for the other.   And so, their fairy tale continued, not just within the magical realm of Pennsic, but in the everyday world as well. Jon and Sara had found something rare and precious—something that would last far beyond the days of War and the turning of the seasons.   Their love, like a banner unfurled in the wind, was woven from the threads of friendship, laughter, and shared dreams, bound together by the magic that only the truest of hearts can create.

Jesse met Jon on the first day of college orientation, which is beginning to be a long time ago.  He has been Jon's best friend practically ever since then.   He has been an integral part of Jon's life and there for everything of any importance though the years.  Jon can't imagine his life without him.

Ira is Jon's oldest child.  He changed Jon's life forever when his arrival made Jon a father.  We are thrilled to have Ira in the wedding party.
