Our Story

The Proposal

As many of you know, Sara loves the spotlight and would have liked nothing more than to have been proposed to at half time during a Lakers playoff game. All 20,000 fans in Staples Center cheering us on through the jumbo-tron, and then the ghost of Kobe descends on us to give us his blessing… oh wait, that’s how I wanted to be proposed too…

Sara on the other hand always wanted a more intimate setting, no bright lights and definitely not thousands of eyes on us. I knew this from the beginning, so figuring out how to get both of us out of our pajamas and into an intimate setting all the while catching the entire thing on camera was the challenge at hand. Luckily for me, our good family friend had given me the perfect set up, that actually started years prior. Jericho had been floating the idea of using Sara and I in a photography/film project he was working on. It was probably around 2017 when he first brought it up, and asked if we would be interested. We said we’d love to help, but our schedules didn’t line up and it eventually got “lost in the sauce” if you will. I think we tried linking up a couple more times in the following years, but no dice. One day, it clicked for me to use this project/idea of Jericho’s as the set up for the proposal, and I reached out to him. I remember meeting up with him in Claremont, and pitching my idea to him. It was some real grass roots stuff, sketching ideas and positioning down on napkins outside of Dr. Grubbs. Luckily for us, Jericho was down to help and those napkin drawings became PowerPoint slides and we continued to plan via email. Now that the “what” was in place, the last details to iron out were the “when” and the “where." We decided on August 28th, right before an upcoming work trip and Sara’s 30th birthday. As for “where," we landed on doing it inside of our new home that we had just moved into. I know that some engagements happen abroad or at spectacular locations, but I knew asking Sara to be my wife in the little home we created together would be just as special (and also kept the 20,000 Laker fans at bay). With that, Jericho texted us and asked us one last time if we wanted to be a part of his project and we said yes.

Come the big day, I knew that Sara had no idea what was coming her way. She even scheduled some errands right before the time Jericho had told us he was coming. I was so nervous I totally forgot to iron my shirt. Sara was so oblivious she didn’t even put shoes on. It was absolutely perfect. Jericho explained the prompt to us, and it was simple. We would take turns listening to the other speak of what they truly admire and love about us. The camera would capture raw emotion and reaction to hearing your partner bare all. We put Sara up first, and so she stood behind me as I stared (awkwardly but lovingly) into Jericho’s camera lens. To be completely honest, I know we said she hates being put on the spot, but she absolutely killed it. Without any preparation or knowledge of the prompt, in one take she gave an amazing monologue detailing intimate parts of why she loved me and adored me – even sneaking in some well-placed jokes! Jericho absolutely nailed the shots, as he got really great high definition pictures of all my pimples and moles reacting to Sara’s love.

Now the part where my heart is in my throat, and my hands start to sweat Mr90 style (oh!). At this time the ring box is stashed away in a super-secret, secure, and foolproof hiding spot- underneath some towels below the bathroom sink. The plan was to use the bathroom before we switched, but Sara’s world famous tiny bladder beat me to the punch. Let me tell you, that that 45 second pee had Jericho and I panicking. I finally get in there and recover the ring, stash in my back pocket, and say a little prayer. I walked out and got ready for the main event. Now, I’ll spare you the details of what I said, but let’s just say even for someone like me that talks a lot, hearing myself go for 15+ minutes straight sounds insane. But in the moment, I had so much I wanted to say… so much I wanted to exclaim to the world (via Jericho’s iPhone recording in the distance) about my feelings for this woman.

Sure, there’s a video out there somewhere that you can find, but in short I just wanted to remind her of all the things she already knew. I let her know how much I appreciated what she does for this family, and the sacrifice she’s made with our future in mind. I told her how much I absolutely look forward to the 19 Tik Tok’s I have waiting for me every morning. I forgave her for liking La La Land more than The Greatest Showman. I told her that I notice and adore that before she falls asleep at night, her foot wanders around the maze that is the sheets and has to find my leg. Only after this physical touch brings us together, can she finally find rest for the night, and I absolutely love that. I told her that she is one of the only people on this Earth that can continue to push me to grow and admit that I don’t actually know it all. I thanked her for throwing herself into this world of friends and family that is my culture and background, even if it isn’t always easy. I told her that I know she gets the worst parts of me, especially when it seems that everyone else gets the best version of me, and most importantly that I appreciate and am forever grateful that she loves me the most when I deserve it the least.

At this point, she’s stone cold not a single tear on her face….yet. I think she’s mostly surprised thinking that I just came up with all of that on the spot. I drop to one knee and she finally realizes what’s going on. Then, and only then do I get the single thug tear out of her to prove that she does love me back (jk, I know she loves me). I ask Her Grace for her hand in marriage, and by saying yes she made me the luckiest man in the world.

Bridal Party

ELIZABETH EHLERS (LIZ) | MAID OF HONOR

If you know Liz, you know that even one photo is EXTREMELY rare because finding a picture of her is not an easy feat (as she's normally the one behind the camera). So to have TWO photos together - I feel truly blessed.

No but seriously, I am honored to have my older sister/ate Liz, someone who's been through it alll with me from growing up together in Virginia Beach, being weird all the time together, having little inside jokes, to being able to communicate in the same room with just a look. So lucky to have her stand by my side for my wedding day.

CHRISTINA-MARIE SANTILLAN (CM) | MAID OF HONOR

I met CM through a mutual bestie, Anaise (who you'll see next on this list), and we all instantly connected. We initially bonded over being young, wild, & free and the woes of working in the restaurant industry through our formative years.

Our lives literallyyy felt like a movie through all of the crazy shenanigans we went through. And somehow we made it out transitioning literally from bar hopping to book clubbing as best friends. Ultimately, I'm SO so glad to still have this beautiful soul in my life nearly a decade later.

Anaise Lopez (Ana) | BRIDESMAID

Truly cannot fathom going through the last ten years of my life without the one, the only: Anaise (Ana). My college roommate (who became so much more than that), my sister.

My memories would literally be incomplete without Ana dragging me out every weekend lecturing me on how "we will never be this young again, seize the moment," and I always listened to her, reluctantly. But now that we're older (and I'm getting married), I see that she was so right. SO thankful she made me get out of my homebody ways and enjoy my youth alongside my best friend.

MAELYN CACHO | BRIDESMAID

I met Maelyn in highschool and we ended up becoming really close --she even took me to my very first broadway show! While I would LOVE to give you an amazing bio of her, of course, being the superior Virgo, she has already provided me with one so good I have to use it.

In her own words, "I met Sara when I moved to Covina during our freshman year of high school. Being the new kid was less daunting when I met her and I consider Sara to be one of my very first friends at South Hills High School. She was wayyyy cooler than me and I was her geeky theater friend but we always made time to support each other either online (via livejournal) or at school. We eventually went to junior college (Citrus College) together and I have fond memories of being stupid with our friend group in the library, countless hours roaming malls, and getting lunch." The back story of this being ^1. I definitely was not cooler than her, she literally has the singing voice of an angel2. FOR SOME REASON, both her and Abby believe I went to Citrus college together and I really have no recollection of taking any classes there (s/o MT SAC). (like I remember initially registering to dual-enroll but not actually taking a class?) which leads me to our next bridesmaid..

Abigail Olivarez (Abby) | Bridesmaid

Abigail (Abby), the light of my life. Abby and I became close in high school and college, through bonding over our disneyland pass days (RIP affordable pass prices), and then reconnected again recently in the past couple of years.

We started hanging out with Maelyn, the three of us going out again together to brunch, to bars, and hosting euphoria watching parties. For as long as I've known Abby she's always been such a sweet, happy spirit and I'm so glad she's one of my bridesmaids.

Mary Nataniya | Bridesmaid

Mary and I started hanging out in recent years and actually met IRL due to Instagram. We had actually followed and supported each other for YEARS online before actually meeting, and then thankfully one day Mary asked me to meet up and grab a coffee.

We went to downtown Pasadena and just clicked and became fast friends (we actually went to Revolve Festival together and she stayed over my parents house I feel like within maybe 1-2 months of meeting each other in person lol so guess you can say she met the parents already!) Mary has the sweetest soul and I feel lucky to have become close with her and have her in my life.

Diana Villafuerte (Dee) | Bridesmaid

Funny story, I actually met Diana (Dee) a couple years ago because I was best friends with her younger sister, Victoria Lee (whom I still love dearly). Over the years we re-connected when I started dating Reggie, as she was just about to marry Joey! Crazy how time flies. We actually had one of our first dates and kiss at their wedding!

I still remember how honored I felt that both Dee & Joey let me come to their wedding so last minute, and ever since that moment it has just felt like they both welcomed me with open arms from the beginning. So blessed to have Diana in my life, like family.

Da Boiz

Even though Keith once stabbed Reggie with a fork, he later became the best roommate anyone could ask for. Keith and Reggie have pushed each other to grow in many ways- from health and fitness to finances and relationships. Keith has purchased and owned every car that Reggie has ever wanted, and Reggie is both thankful and forgiving of it. Erwin is Reggie's first cousin, but he's more like a brother to him.

Erwin Agay | Bestman & Trainer

Andre has seen the best and worst of Reggie. Held his hair back as he's praying to the porcelain gods and even got into a street fight because of Reggie's dumbass mouth in LA. They forged their bond on the slopes of Mt. High, and engraved their friendship on the asphalt of destiny with their twin Miat- oops i mean S2000s. Ders is somehow the same person AND also the antithesis to Reggie in every way, but is always able to provide wisdom and grounding when needed most.

Andre Fernandez | Bestman & Therapist

Stan the Man with the Master Plan. Reggie's little brother, but he now towers over him in height. The two grew up together watching Toonami and playing video games but once Stan bested Reggie in Halo, he knew his gaming days were numbered. Legend has it that Reggie once convinced Stan to put on all of his Tae-Kwon-Do gear to get punched right in the stomach. Legend has it that Reggie is still grounded for this alleged punch. The two now bond over music and find fulfillment by giving back to their parents when they can.

Tristan Guinto | Groomsman & Brother

Robbie is not only the best teammate that Reggie has ever had, he's also one of the most kind and most real friends he's ever had. For as much fun as they have missing shots and turning the ball over, the real bonding happens during the late night real talks either outside of the gym or around a glass of whiskey (pour up the Nikka) . They used to dream as little girls and talk about their ideal weddings, and here we are now- getting married in real life.

Robbie Leyva | Groomsman & Team Captain

Legend has it that Reggie is supposed to name his first born after Joey, but Sara may have something to say about that. Joey is another one of Reggie's big brothers that showed him the ways of life, including drinking, driving, drinking, music, drinking, and snowboarding (and drinking). These days, Reggie finds fulfillment in being the Ninong to Joey's amazing daughter, Zoey, and looks forward to raising their families together.

Jo Mari Villafuerte | Groomsmen & Point Guard

Reggie once said "That dude's going to the league!" Unfortunately, he was actually referring to Johnathan at the time (talk about a hot take). Reggie has since come to his senses, but their love of basketball has persevered. The two grew up on AIM as legit digital pen pals writing love letters to each other on then Zynga comments and now Twitter DMs. They both still constantly text (which worries Sara) and are sure to be found commenting on current pop culture, men's fashion, and all things hoop.

Johnathan Johnson | Groomsman & Shooting Guard

Kevin once gave Reggie some leftover IHOP pancakes in between classes, and the rest is, as they say, history. It's still a little hazy what they actually talk about... but it's scientifically proven that they actually do talk like.... every day. If they aren't making fun of Robbie and Jon's draft picks, they're most definitely sharing a large popcorn at the local AMC. Note: Kevin once broke Reggie's PS4, but made up for it by providing the best laughs in GTA.

Kevin Vergara | Groomsman & Small Forward

Reggie has been widely known as the 4th Tolentino brother, making Justin another Kuya that influenced him greatly. Reggie's affinity for cars and fashion are a direct result of Justin's presence. Fun Fact: Justin may be the only person who's kissed Reg more than Sara has. The two still play basketball together, but Reggie is now usually preoccupied playing games with Justin's four beautiful kids- especially Reggie's Godson Miles.

Justin Tolentino | Groomsman & Power Forward

Jayson and Reggie have known each other for over 25 years (in case the photo doesn't make that painfully evident) and have gotten into all kinds of trouble together. The two played highschool basketball and football together, and have crashed countless Inland Empire house parties in their day leaving behind dismantled beer pong challengers in tears. Now in their more seasoned years, they share a love of meats (yikes) and sipping whiskey while discussing life's many mysteries.

Jayson Campos | Groomsman & Center

THINGS TO DO IN ITALY

First time in Italy? Don't worry, we got you. Below you'll find a comprehensive list of all of the experiences, stays, and recommendations we have from our stay in Italy. ROME

Recommended Stay: Frattina Elegance SuiteSuch a pretty place to stay at and best of all its walking distance from the Trevi fountain (so you can live out your Lizzie McGuire dreams) and is located right in the middle of a bunch of shops and cute restaurants. FLORENCE

Recommended Stay: Botticelli's LoftLocated in the heart of Florence and walking distance from a lot of cafes and restaurants. While you're there you can book a pasta making class, shop fine leather goods, or explore cute book stores. Also highly recommend getting advance reservations for the Statue of David at the Academia Gallery (get the 'Skip the Line' tickets) and Osteria Pastella for life-changing cheese wheel pasta.

TUSCANYor more specifically, Montepulciano

Recommended stay: Apartment in the Vineyard with PoolThere's a really great Tuscan breakfast available at the stay, a gym, a pool, and the most amazing Italian countryside views. While staying here, I would recommend traveling to Montepulciano for the cutest little authentic town. It has the best architecture and such amazing food.

And of course, if you want to see any videos of our stay and the above experiences, you can check out our most recent vlog from our last trip here.

What time should I arrive to the ceremony? While the official wedding ceremony start time will be listed on your invitations, you can expect the ceremony to begin in the evening around 5 PM Italian time. Additionally, it is quite a drive from the nearest city, please give yourself plenty of time and arrive anywhere from 15-30 minutes early as to not disrupt the ceremony. What should I wear? This should come as no surprise but please please just AVOID any bright or neon primary colors. :) FOR WOMENPlease use this color palette as a guide below for your dress. Think muted, lighter colors that are not very contrasting. Florals are also okay. A floor-length gown, knee-length or midi dress, or a dressy pantsuit works! Opt for light colors and fabrics, using the palette as a guide. Please of course, AVOID anything white, cream or close to ivory.

FOR MENThe above color palette does not necessarily apply to men (but if you want to, go for it!). In general, suits in any neutral color would work (tan, brown, black, grey, navy etc.) White button-down shirts are okay. Opt for lighter colors where possible. Barongs are also welcome. Will the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception take place indoors or outdoors?Everything will be outdoors! What will the weather be like?I recommend checking the forecast closer to the date, but as we'll be in Italy, from what I know it will be hot and a bit humid. What will the wedding-day timeline look like?Scheduling info will be updated on this site shortly, but for now, please expect the wedding to be around sunset. How do I get to the wedding venue? Will transportation be provided? Please find our venue info here and all of our travel info here. Please feel free to reach out to reginaldandsara@blanc-weddings.com if you need assistance in booking any travel accommodations, or a shuttle to and from the venue. Is there parking available at the wedding venue?Yes, there should be plenty of parking. Do you have a hotel block for guests? Where do you recommend I stay?We will be covering the stay for all guests at our venue. If you prefer to stay somewhere else, we have listed a couple of hotel options near the venue here. Can I bring a Plus 1?Unfortunately due to limited space issues, you are only able to bring a Plus 1 if we've specifically told you that you have one. Thanks so much for your understanding! Can I bring my kids? While we love your little ones, due to limited space we were unable to accommodate all of the little kiddos. Appreciate your understanding for this difficult decision, and we'll party with you and your little ones once we return! What type of food will be served during the cocktail hour and reception? There will be a charcuterie board during cocktail hour (Umbria is known for their specialty meats!), along with a couple of live food stations - please try them all! This is followed by a three-course plated dinner and traditional Italian wedding cake for dessert. What about drinks?Yes, we will have an open bar, you alcoholics. You will also be served wine along with dinner. All I ask is.. you pace yourselves! I have dietary restrictions/allergies. What's the best way to let you know? You should be able to note this through our RSVP page but if there are any major concerns please reach out to us directly. Where are you registered? While your presence at our wedding is already more than a gift to us, if you'd like to get us a something little extra, find free to shop online registry here. Due to the fact that we'll all be traveling, please have any gifts shipped directly to our household -- there should be an option to do so on the registry website. It'll be easier for both you and us this way, so we can all avoid trying to fit all of these within our carry-ons while traveling around Europe! I originally RSVP'd yes but something came up and now I can't make it. How should I let you know? Please reach out to us directly. Do I need to RSVP officially through this website? Yes, but please hold for now as we still need to update the form. This should be ready once we send out official print invites in the coming weeks! I can't make it to Italy, will this be the only reception? We will miss you in Italy, but don't fret we will be having another reception back home in the summer of 2024 for those who can't make it!
