Not many couples can say that they have known the love of their life since they were twelve years old, but Matt and I are one of the lucky few that can. Matt and I went to middle school together which is where we became best friends. The summer before high school started Matt asked me to be his girlfriend at a Barons baseball game at the Hoover Met. We dated all through high school; going to homecomings, proms, football games and more. We were the definition of high school sweethearts. Then it became time to go off to college. It was a little scary because we knew that most couples didn't survive the transition from high school to college, but thankfully we did. We both ended up at Troy where we made some of our favorite memories and met some of our greatest friends. We've been across the ocean, took a few unexpected trips to the hospital and spent countless nights on the patio at Lambda Chi, but nothing could compare to the adventure that is to come.
It was Easter weekend last year and we were home to visit our families. Matt asked me to hangout on Saturday night and not thinking anything of it I suggested that we just grill out at my house. Matt agreed to keep me from getting suspicious and quickly called my mom to help come up with a plan to get me out of the house. It was almost dinner time and I was sitting on the couch wearing an oversized tee-shirt and nike shorts when my mom comes in and asks me if I'm going to change before Matt got there. I gave her a weird look and said "No, why?" She then got all mad and said that we were having a nice meal and that I needed to put on "more appropriate" clothes before dinner. I should have known something was up but I was clueless. I even said to her "Fine I'll change but I don't see why it's like he's going to propose." I'm sure my mom was dying inside when I said that. We had dinner and everything was nice when all of a sudden my mom starts to panic and says that she doesn't have any dill for the potato salad for Easter dinner and said that we had to go to the store to get some. I, still not catching on to anything, said "Okay fine we will go" and left for the store with Matt. On the way home from the store we noticed that there were lights on at the Hoover Met. I asked Matt what he thought it could be for with it being Easter weekend. I knew they wouldn't be having a function that late so Matt suggested we go and check it out. We pulled up and Matt said, "look one of the gates is unlocked lets go check it out." I start panicking and told him that we will go to jail, but of course I followed him in anyway. We walked around and made it over to the picnic tables. I was still too worried about going to jail to realize what was happing. Matt finally convinced me to calm down and look at the moon and stars with him. After a few minutes Matt said it was time to go so I started to walk away when he asked if I noticed anything on the picnic table. I looked and there was this little box sitting there all by itself. My heart started to race and I thought "Is this really happening?" I walked over and picked up the box but when I opened it I saw that it was empty. I rolled my eyes and said "Ha ha very funny", but when I turned around he was down on one knee with the ring in his hand. That spot was where it all started eight years before, so it was only fitting that the same spot would be where we decided to be together forever.
