A little bit of fate and a little bit of bourbon is how this all started. Rob and I worked at the Snake River Grill together. I worked in the back-of-the-house and Rob worked front-of-house. He was always friendly and a little flirty, but he was that way with all the girls, so I didn’t pay too much attention.

During our annual Employee Party, Rob and I were seated together along with our Mexican co-workers who didn’t speak much English, so Rob and I had the whole evening to ourselves. The party moved from the restaurant to the local bowling alley. I initially had no intention of continuing to bowling, but Rob convinced me otherwise. I met Rob there because he had to change into a Halloween costume— his take on Richard Simmons— tight ladies bike shorts, a wig and to complete the look, a Borat swimsuit. Needless to say, it was super sexy. We continued to talk during the bowling and Rob started buying shots of bourbon and not much bowling was done.

We took the taxi towards town and it began to thunder and rain. Rob was on his bike and I was worried about him getting home safely, so I insisted he stay at my place. The conversation continued until 3am and ended with a kiss.

Rob was pretty content NOT to have a girlfriend, but I decided I wasn’t going to give up that easily and I bugged Rob with text messages and invited myself over to his house a few times. Eventually he got the idea that I wasn’t leaving. We actually kept the relationship a secret from our co-workers for 3 months. They didn’t find out until I introduced Rob to my parents over dinner at the Snake River Grill— we were quite the surprise!

Nearly 8 years from that employee party and a few housing crisis’, a few elk and a moose, a new house and a puppy later, Rob proposed on our birthday (yes, we share the same birthday) with the help of Dusty Rose. I don’t think I even gave Rob the time to ask the question before I said yes!
