We recommend spending a day in Oxford either side of the wedding if you can... it's a beautiful city and we've put together a few of our favourite things to do below.
Additionally, to save you having to ask, start at The Turf then on to The King's Arms, The Bear, The Chequers, The Lamb and Flag and finishing at Hanks if you're brave...
Visit the amazing historic Bodleian library! One of Britain's six copyright libraries, the Bodleian is entitled to recieve a copy of all material published in the UK and Ireland. It has had this status since 1610 and has so many books that it has to store them in a tunnel network under Radcliffe Square.
However, we managed to sneak into these tunnels one aftenoon using Sarah's Bod Card and were rather disapointed at how utilitarian they are... !
The University of Oxford is actually pretty much the whole city, but we recommend visiting at least one college (besides Teddy Hall, our wedding venue). Our favourites are New College, Trinity and Baliol. If you want the full Oxford 'Harry Potter' effect, we would also recommend Christ Church.
Hertford College (in the photo) isn't generally open to visitors but you can pass under the Bridge of Sighs which Sarah used to show off her local knoweldge by taking Paul over on our second date!
This is a weird and wonderful museum with objects, manuscripts and other oddities from all around the world. Founded in 1884 when General Pitt-Rivers donated his private collection to the University of Oxford, it continues to hold an ecclectic mix in its collection. Look out for our favourite item: the witch in a bottle!
The Ashmolean holds one of the best art and archeology collections outside London and is well worth a visit. It's treasures include one of the most significant relics of British Royalty: The Alfred Jewel.
If the weather is good, there is little better to do than hire a boat and go punting in Oxford! You can do this either in the centre of town at Magdalen Bridge or from the Cherwell Boathouse. Punts can hold up to five people and boat hire is around £30 an hour.
We particularly like taking a punt from the Cherwell Boathouse up to the Victoria pub for a pint!
If you're looking for somewhere to have a pre-cermony lunch, we recommend the Bear and Ragged Staff in Cumnor. A traditional British style gastro-pub, it has a good (though on the expensive end) menu and is a 5 minute walk from the church.
