Sarah's story:
In the summer of 2018, I traveled to Taiwan to teach at a summer camp in Tainan. Little did I know, this journey would change my life forever. It was there that I met Jeff.
We were celebrating a mutual friend's birthday in a karaoke room. I was mesmerized by his singing, and that night marked the beginning of our connection. Our summer fling quickly evolved into something deeper.
I made the bold decision to move to Taiwan, embracing a new chapter of my life with Jeff. For the past five and a half years, we've been living in Taiwan together, creating a life for ourselves and experiencing all the ups and downs that life throws our way.
Jeff's 30th birthday was fast approaching, and I had the perfect surprise planned for him—or so I thought. Little did I know, he had an even bigger surprise in store for me.
I decided to throw him a surprise birthday party, booking a karaoke room (just like how we met) and inviting all his closest friends. When Jeff walked in, he played along, acting genuinely surprised by the festivities. But then he mentioned he had a sudden business meeting to attend.
Feeling a bit confused, I went along with it. Then, one of my friends claimed she was feeling unwell and needed assistance in the hotel room next door. Trusting her, I agreed to go with her. As I opened the door to the room, there was Jeff, singing "All of Me" by John Legend.
The room was decorated with pictures of us from the past five years, a "Marry Me" sign with flower petals and lights. Before I could process what was happening, Jeff got down on one knee and proposed with a big ring balloon before giving me an actual ring. It was a moment I'll never forget. To top it all off, Jeff's friends had orchestrated an impromptu ceremony, "marrying" us right then and there.
It was the most unexpected and magical surprise of my life. Somehow, it all circled back to a karaoke room, just like how we met, making it even more special. I couldn't have been happier to say "yes" to spending forever with Jeff.
