A Mehndi (henna) is a pre-wedding celebration in Pakistani culture. A day or two before the actual Mehndi (henna) event, the bride's hands and feet, along with those of her female relatives and friends, are adorned with intricate henna designs. The Mehndi (henna) event is a festive occasion featuring music, dancing, and food, offering an opportunity for the families of the bride and groom to gather and celebrate before the wedding day.
Are men and women separated at a Mehndi?
This varies depending on the couple. For us, yes, but not the entire time! Initially, during the Mehndi, men and women will be together to eat and converse. Those who wish to dance for the happy couple are free to do so! Later in the evening, men and women will be separated. We are implementing this so that our close family and friends who wear the headscarf for their Islamic faith can dance comfortably.
