In April 2019, tagging along on a late add invitation, Michael joined several Stamford, CT friends on a long weekend beach vacation to Charleston, SC. Never having visited Charleston before, there were no expectations for the weekend. Little did Michael know it would be where he would meet his best friend.

Meanwhile, on a Saturday evening, Sarah was dragged out by her girlfriend with intentions of meeting up with a couple guys, who Sarah was promised were worth going out for. After 30 minutes of unsuccessfully getting into the club the guys were at, Sarah and her friend were finished waiting and audibled to their homebase bar, Prohibition, looking to turn around the evening.

Being content on the beach, Michael and the group only planned to go out one night in downtown Charleston, but Prohibition was the consensus choice of destination. Not long after arriving, some of the crew started making friends with two girls at the back patio bar...and that's where Sarah and Michael's story would officially begin. Within minutes, a round of 12 lemon drop shots were ordered, and the night's course had been set.

Sarah hadn't quite noticed at first, but Michael had made up his mind on which of the two girls he was interested in. Only after an hour or so though, when Sarah was finished asking one of Michael's friends all about his job in "pet aftercare", did Michael finally find his opening to start talking to Sarah. That first evening lasted until 3am, including a late night fast food run, but after swapping numbers, Michael made sure they would see each other again, inviting Sarah and her friend to the beach house the next day.

After a full day hanging out again, Michael and Sarah assumed the fun had pretty much run its course. However, Sarah unexpectedly found herself dateless to an upcoming wedding after her previous date (conveniently for Michael) caught strep. Sarah thought it would be fun to invite the cute guy she just met. On a gut feeling, Michael said yes, booked a flight, and found himself flying back down to Charleston only 3 days after leaving earlier that week.

While the relationship may have ultimately then been solidified by that wedding invitation and subsequent trips exchanging visits between Connecticut and South Carolina, that first day carries special significance in our relationship. Affectionately known as Prohibition Day, April 27th is now celebrated annually. Fast forward to 2023, on the 4th anniversary of that very first Prohibition Day, Michael proposed and Sarah said yes to a lifetime of Prohibition Days together.
