Cody and Sarah's story began in high school after a pep-rally. Sarah was dressed in oversized clothes, a wig, hat, and beard as she participated in a gender swap competition between grade levels. After the pep-rally was over, Sarah received a text from Cody that read "You make a cute boy."

Cody planned a picnic at Whaley Church on June 23, 2016. This was where they had hung out for the first time six years ago. Cody told Sarah he was going to bring a special dessert (a.k.a. an engagement ring) so Sarah was really, really hoping for a cookie cake. After sandwiches and some basketball, Cody told Sarah she had to make five shots in a row before they could have dessert. After multiple attempts, Sarah was finally successful. Cody unpacked his dessert, and when Sarah around he was on one knee!
