Despite living 10 minutes apart, Sherif living in Oakville and I in Burlington, and both attending McMaster University for undergraduate studies, it was not until medical school at the University of Ottawa that we first met. We began as friends when I was invited to Sherif's birthday party in 2019, thereafter, growing closer with each potluck, movie night, bike ride, and carpool home from Ottawa. As time elapsed, we felt something special developing between us - the jokes were a little funnier, anticipating time to spend together was more exciting, and thoughts of one another as more than just friends were brewing. With the onset of COVID-19, school quickly transitioned to online learning and living only minutes apart, we found ourselves spending more socially distanced time together. One evening, I invited Sherif for an outdoor distanced dinner of his favourite food, homemade pizza - this night was one that changed everything. During our hours of conversation we realized that our values and interests aligned even more than we thought, and we were never again able to see eachother as just friends. The first 2 months of our relationship were socially distanced: going on sunrise bike rides, walks / hikes, and eating outdoor dinners 6 feet apart. Sherif willingly entered my life as a partner during my family's greatest adversity and insisted it was God's plan for him to be in my life with a promise to support me through thick and thin. Together we have grown in faith, love, and joy, sharing numerous adventures as medical students on rotation in Barry's Bay and Pembroke; pushing one another in our fitness journeys; supporting Sherif's passion for cooking and my love of baking and ice cream; building our relationships with family and friends; graduating from medical school, and ultimately matching together to Grimsby to practice rural Family Medicine through McMaster University. In celebration of our graduation, we travelled to Hawaii. On our second last day, we drove up Haleakala in Maui where Sherif proposed to me at sunrise - the happiest day of our lives. We are so excited to be able to share this sacrament and blessing with our loved ones and are grateful for your constant support and love as we begin our lives together.
