Our Wedding

In January 2015, Dean invited Sarah to join him in Chicago for a trip to Second City. Sarah thought it was a group outing, but only Dean showed up with Starbucks hot chocolate for two when her train arrived downtown. They grabbed a drink at a local bar&nbsp;in Old Town and were both pleasantly surprised to see that they ordered the same stout. Sarah characteristically nursed her beer, then they rushed down the icy sidewalk - where Dean nearly&nbsp;fell several times - to&nbsp;Second City.&nbsp;They had such a good time that they've gone back every year since. After the show, they walked around aimlessly exploring the city&nbsp;on the cold, snowy night, until they ended up sitting down near the train station. They sat in the cold for what seemed like an hour in front of a group of ugly trees that neither will ever forget until it was time for Sarah to take the last train home. Though they sat on opposite ends of the freezing bench, they both later admitted knowing that this might have been more than just another trip into the city.

Our First Date?

Sarah and Dean grew closer over their shared interests, including good food/beer, the Illini,&nbsp;music, nature&nbsp;and travel! They've cooked new recipes, experienced&nbsp;new&nbsp;restaurant week menus&nbsp;in Chicago and Philadelphia, and sampled craft beer from around&nbsp;the country. Combining their love of food and nature, in 2017&nbsp;they even&nbsp;started their own community garden plot&nbsp;in Naperville and found&nbsp;creative ways to transform&nbsp;their mountain of zucchini and yellow squash into memorable meals. Their parents warned them that gardening together would truly test the strength of their relationship.&nbsp;They've listened to&nbsp;jazz sets&nbsp;in New York, Chicago, and New&nbsp;Orleans - Dean wholeheartedly supporting the saxophones and Sarah cheering loudest for the trombone solos.&nbsp;Their desire to hike and spend time together exploring&nbsp;nature has&nbsp;taken them across the country&nbsp;- from Glacier National Park to Savannah, Georgia&nbsp;and a few of Illinois' State Parks in between.

Adventures Together

On January 19th, 2019, Sarah started her day with an unexpected text from Dean's grandpa that included a riddle. The answer sent Sarah&nbsp;and Dean to the train station - a place they often found themselves on Saturday mornings in preparation for a day trip downtown. Although Sarah was full of smiles and questions, Dean continued to deny any knowledge of what was going on and did what he does best...play dumb. That was the start of a day full of riddles from her sister, her college roommates, and some of her favorite Marching Illini. The answers took them across the city to spots and activities&nbsp;they had&nbsp;enjoyed&nbsp;together, including good food, good drinks, and good music. The last riddle took them back to the group of ugly trees where their first date ended almost four years ago to the day&nbsp;on a similarly cold and snowy night. With no one else in sight, Dean asked Sarah if she would spend the rest of her life with him and she said yes!

Chris and Dean first met in junior high and quickly realized they had a lot&nbsp;in&nbsp;common, especially when it came to anything competitive - whether that be driveway basketball, intermural football, travel baseball, backyard ping pong, or even&nbsp;1980's trivial pursuit. Not surprisingly, they became best friends and despite Dean's inability to text and Chris being out of state, they're still just as close today.&nbsp;

Hannah is Sarah's younger sister and oldest friend. Hannah is an avid baker, always surprising us with a new experimental recipe at our football tailgates. Hannah is also a Harry Potter fanatic - there is not a random HP&nbsp;fact she does not know.&nbsp;They share a love of Illini Athletics & Marching Illini, saying "if we agree it must be right," and their dog-sister Zoey. Sarah can't imagine anyone else standing next to her as she ties the knot!

Jared and Dean met their freshman year of college at U of I as suitemates in the dorms. They became fast friends spending&nbsp;long days and sometimes nights playing competitive basketball at the ARC - at times&nbsp;getting the chance&nbsp;to play against a host of present and past Illini (ask Jared about Meyers Leonard). Jared has always&nbsp;been the high-motor adventurer and has convinced Dean to join him camping, hiking, biking, ice fishing, and almost everything in between.&nbsp;

Sarah and Marissa met in biochem class at U of I. When Marissa was not running marathons&nbsp;or biking across the country, their&nbsp;friendship grew through&nbsp;Marching Illini/Basketball Band, ChBE classes, and love of Illini basketball. Marissa and Sarah now enjoy swapping crazy work stories and bonding over "cat-mom" moments courtesy of Sophie & Ellie.&nbsp;Sarah is very excited to have Marissa stand up at her wedding!

Gail was one of the first people Sarah met during her first evening at U of I on Newman Hall's 1 South floor. You may catch Gail&nbsp;off-roading with Baja in an off road vehicle&nbsp;that she designed & built.&nbsp;Gail and Sarah did Marching Illini together freshman year, lived together for 2.5 years (Gail somehow made&nbsp;it through both Sarah and Kelly's many alarms every morning), and took a post-graduation trip to hike through&nbsp;Utah.&nbsp;Sarah is very excited to have Gail&nbsp;stand up at her wedding!

Jon and Dean first met in junior high, lived in the same neighborhood, and have stayed close thanks to a wide range of common interests. In recent years,&nbsp;you’d likely&nbsp;find these two enjoying&nbsp;somewhat competitive&nbsp;12" softball in leagues across the south suburbs, playing&nbsp;a relaxing&nbsp;round of 18, trying their best at bar trivia,&nbsp;or&nbsp;drinking good beer - whether it be at a&nbsp;new brewery or a local festival. Jon's misguided love of Notre Dame football is more than&nbsp;redeemed&nbsp;by his love of dogs - especially Casey.&nbsp;

Kelly and Sarah met freshman year at U of I in physics lab and calc class (which they somehow both survived)&nbsp;and also both lived at Newman Hall. Kelly is infamous for her love of garlic and Lebanese food and culture.&nbsp;Kelly and Sarah&nbsp;roomed together for 2 years and share a love of Michael Buble, drinking tea, &&nbsp;the Illini (except for those vicious Illini squirrels).&nbsp;Sarah is very excited to have Kelly&nbsp;stand up at her wedding!

AK&nbsp;first met Dean&nbsp;way back when they were both wolves at Western Avenue elementary school and they've been friends ever since:&nbsp;learning the hard way&nbsp;that soprano wasn't in their vocal&nbsp;range, pioneering the ahead of its time&nbsp;basement hockey league in junior high, competing on both the diamond and golf course in high school, and rooming together multiple years at U of I. AK has always been a die-hard local sports fan and an unapologetic teller of dad jokes. Watch out,&nbsp;with&nbsp;the new addition to their&nbsp;family - Ava Ray - he might have added a few more to his repertoire.&nbsp;

Matt is Hannah's fiance and a fellow Marching Illini fossil! Matt is a Kuhl family tailgate staple, and has the only car that can fit all 6 of us for Brewers games (much to Hannah's chagrin).

Two that are near the hotel are Lucky Monk (across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn) and Mikerphone (a little further, in Elk Grove Village). If you have some time between the ceremony and the reception, you can also grab a drink in the restaurant at Makray.
