Our Wedding

The goal was stealth. I did not want Sarah to know that I was proposing anytime soon. We had looked at rings, but it was more to see the styles and sizes. My love for disc golf was the perfect cover. Leading up to this, I would intentionally not communicate while I was playing disc golf, building a habit for her to expect me to “disappear” for a time every Friday. After the routine had been established, I chose a Friday to “play some disc golf” and obtained a beautiful stone on a ring of white gold. Ring in hand I hid it in my apartment and proceeded with life as normal. I believe I even hinted at going and looking at rings at least another time. Step 1 completed.&nbsp; 	Next was talking to Hannah, her college roommate of 3 years and eager volunteer to assist in the planning. Originally, we planned on having her bring Sarah to Pittsburgh for a girls' night, but it got too complicated. Our next option was a park, and being in Western PA, there were some options. We settled on McConnells Mill State Park and picked a spot by the covered bridge. With the plan in place, all we had to do was wait for the right weekend and a good excuse to get Sarah to the proposal location. That opportunity found us by a planned accident. Let me explain, the best excuse to go to McConnells Mill was to plan a fun photoshoot with the girls in her apartment. They had been talking about doing something like that all semester, so Hannah set the plan into action.&nbsp;The perfect accident was when one of the other ABTs offered to do photographs for people and out of all people, Sarah herself jumped at the offer, with no idea she was setting up her own proposal photographer. That very next weekend was perfect, not a cloud in the sky and a warm temperature for a March day. The plan was I would arrive and park my car far away from the path to not draw any suspicion. Then I would hide in the woods where I could see the proposal spot and come out when the time was right. The only problem: no reception. This meant I had no contact with the girls about when to expect them, or where they were. I waited for close to 2 hours in the woods. And before you think they were late, no I was just early, eager to ask the love of my life to marry me. Soon they arrived. Agreeing to give them time to take pictures I waited patiently but they never really got to the location I wanted to propose. Instead, Hannah called me to make a great change. She saw a better opportunity at a little structure built to walk out over the river. No reception caused a delay as we tried to time it right, but soon enough I took the opportunity and ran over to propose. I think the shock on her face really told the story. She had no idea I even had a ring, much less that I was going to propose that day. “I was wondering why we bought the fake nails,” she exclaimed as she was telling me later about what happened from her side. I pulled off the perfect surprise proposal. And with the shiny ring on her finger, we sat and called family and enjoyed our first lunch as an engaged couple.&nbsp;The End P.S. None of this would have been possible without the immense help of Hannah. She was so eager to help it made my job easier and it turned out perfectly.&nbsp;

What is a Cookie Table?

A Cookie Table is a Pittsburgh wedding tradition where loved ones of the bride and groom prepare cookies and bring them to the wedding to share. This tradition is believed to have started during the Great Depression when fancy cakes were less attainable.
