Our Wedding

Six years ago, we began dating, with Brett living in Blandburg, Pennsylvania, and Sarah living in Rochester, New York. Even with the great distance between us, we often visited each other every weekend. In order to save each of us some mileage, at the suggestion of Brett's mom, we decided at times to meet halfway between Rochester and Blandburg in the little known town of Wellsboro, PA. Eventually, a tradition was born. Every October, we would see the beautiful fall foliage at the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Every December, we would enjoy the Christmas on Main Street celebration held in Wellsboro, capped off by hot chocolate by the fireplace at the Historic Penn Wells Hotel. Over time, this little town became special to both of us. The quaint small-town atmosphere highlighted by both its natural and manmade beauty brought us back year after year. Even after Brett moved to Rochester full time, we decided to make the trek twice a year to continue this tradition. Given that this place was so magical to the both of us, it was a natural conclusion that Brett would propose right by the very fireplace we drink hot chocolate in front of year after year. After Sarah agreed to forever, wedding planning had commenced. Though multiple venues were discussed and researched, both of us came to the conclusion that our wedding could not be held anywhere else. This place is too sentimental, too magical, and too unique of an opportunity for us to pass up on. It is our hope that our closest friends, family, and those dearest to us can experience a slice of the wonderful place that brought us together and will keep us together for forever.

The Penn Wells Hotel, built in 1869, is one of Wellsboro’s most historic landmarks. The current building, which was restored in the 1920s, has 70 character-filled guest rooms of varying sizes and types. Our elegant Lobby and Mary Wells Dining Room transport guests to a bygone era where welcoming staff and friendly locals remain the norm. The cozy and inviting full-service Lounge sits adjacent to the Hotel lobby and offers a full selection of classic cocktails, beer and wine in a great atmosphere in which to wind down after a busy day of travel, recreation or business. At the Hotel, make yourself at home in one of the rooms featuring flat-screen televisions, complimentary wireless Internet access, and complimentary toiletries. For guests staying at the Penn Wells Hotel, we are pleased to offer a complimentary American breakfast between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m. in the Mary Wells Dining Room. Our complimentary American breakfast includes hot items such as scrambled eggs and sausage, as well as cereal, fruit and assorted baked goods. Starbucks® coffee and Tazo® tea are also offered every morning. Our customers love our homemade muffins, so be sure not to miss them!

Penn Wells Historic Hotel

Our 89-room Lodge, just two blocks down Main Street from the Hotel property, offers guests contemporary lodging, including complimentary breakfast and 32 Executive suites designed to surround visitors with the comforts of home. Relax in front of the fire in one of our four impressive fireplace suites, and enjoy the added privacy of a separate living room with kitchenette, bedroom and full bath. The Lodge also offers a number of standard guest rooms perfect for business travel or small groups. Kids and adults alike can enjoy our indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Leonard Harrison Park is our absolute favorite place to visit when we come to Wellsboro! On the east rim of the canyon, the 585-acre Leonard Harrison State Park has modern facilities, a visitor center, and the most famous scenic views of the canyon. The park is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. Day use areas close at dusk. Also at the overlook, Millers Purely Maple operates a food truck concession from Memorial Day through late September on Saturdays and Sundays, and daily in late September - late October (weather permitting). It is 10.7 miles, about an 18 minute drive, from Wellsboro Main Street. *Please note that it is possible there will be construction at the time of the wedding weekend, so please check to see if the park is open to visitors before planning to visit.

Leonard Harrison State Park AKA Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania

Colton Point offers beautiful views of the canyon. On the west rim of Pine Creek Gorge, also known as the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, the 368-acre Colton Point State Park resonates with the rustic charm of the Civilian Conservation Corps era of the 1930s. The rugged overlooks offer great views of the canyon. The park is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. Day use areas close at dusk. It is smaller without as many overlooks as Leonard Harrison, as well as fewer areas to walk. It is 13.3 miles, about a 23 minute drive, from Wellsboro Main Street.

Colton Point State Park

The Pine Creek Rail Trail is 62 miles of Pure Enjoyment! Families, Friends and Couples will all enjoy The Pine Creek Rail Trail, one of Pennsylvania’s most scenic treasures. The gradual grade is barely detectable and makes for an enjoyable bike ride, walk, or ski, and in portions, horseback ride. From its southern terminus in Jersey Shore Pennsylvania, the Pine Creek Rail Trail travels through Lycoming County north into Tioga County. The Darling Run access point is 7.7 miles, or a 12 minute drive, from Wellsboro Main Street.

This is a well-placed tower giving you an incredible 360 view of some of Pennsylvania’s finest forest. In the North-West are the canyon state parks where the mountains are most prominent. In the South-West is a massive tract of protected lands; the 265,000 acre Susquehannock State Forest seems like an endless string of mountains and valleys. There is not a specific address for the tower, but if you head up to Leonard Harrison State Park, you will see signs pointing you in the right direction for the tower. Google Maps may also be able to direct you towards it. It is privately owned and you must pay to enter the tower. Those who have a fear of heights may not want to visit this attraction! It is about 10 miles, an 18 minute car drive, from Wellsboro Main Street.

The Wellsboro Main Street offers several restaurants and small businesses you can enjoy during your visit! Some places to eat include: Wellsboro Diner (classic diner food), The Roost (upscale pub food), Timeless Destination (Italian food), Red Lantern House (Chinese food), Beck's Bistro (variety of food), The Steak House (what it sounds like), as well as a few chain restaurants like Pizza Hut, Fox's Pizza, Dunkin', McDonald's, and a limited Starbuck's menu at the Café 1905. There are several cute shops to visit up and down Main Street as well, our favorite being Pop's Culture where you can browse board games, or sit down and play a few in their board game library!
