(Told from Sarah’s perspective)
So Harrison and I first met briefly in 2019, at a conference in Atlanta. Nothing more, just two college students wanting to grow closer to the Lord.
Fast forward a year, we both started going to the same church and were both the single ones of the group. We knew each other’s faces but had never actually had a conversation together. Of course, people were “low-key” trying to push us together but neither of us wanted to look stupid, so we tried to keep it more secret.
Our groups started to collide and we made small talk here and there, gaining interest in one another.
Harry made the first move by sending a direct message on Instagram in regards to one of my posts. Our conversation was short and sweet, I claim that he “left me on read”, however, he claims that the conversation was over and didn’t think much about it.
Obviously, I told my brother-in-law what happened and the first thing he said to Harrison the next time he saw him was, “dude, you left her on read”. To which Harrison was shocked and genuinely did not mean to come across that way.
Our first official hangout, one-on-one consisted of me asking him to go for a run sometime— since that is what he originally messaged me about. From there we got dinner and I made sure to pay for myself; because it was not a date.
We hung out a couple more times and got dinner with one of his friends (still made sure to pay for myself). I don’t know what was going through his mind during this time, but I sure hated the “are we talking or not talking” stage. It’s just confusing and leaves too much room to be hurt.
I guess Harrison didn’t care too much for it either; about a month and a half into the “talking” stage, Harry officially asked me out!
Of course he said all the sweet things, like how I had to let him pay because it was in fact a date. For our first date we went to The Cheesecake Factory, somehow he heard I liked cheesecake, like a lot. I was so worried it would be awkward, and at times it was— like when I dropped food on myself because I was a nervous wreck. I was convinced he was unimpressed with my clumsiness because of the look he gave. Which I now know was just him being playful.
On December 3, 2021, Harrison proposed to me. He had all of my family, family to be, and close friends there while he sang a song I told him I adored. It was the sweetest proposal ever!
Now, in just a few short days we will be married and getting to spend forever with each other. Having a partner to do life with is such a blessing. While there are always hardships, the focus is not on ourselves but on each other and how we can prepare one another for eternity. Together we pray we can exemplify Christ’s relationship with His bride, the church. Through our marriage we pray we will glorify God and express the Gospel in all that we do.
