Or maybe it's two people who are the same person. That's what people told us anyways. If we had dimes for every time someone told us "Chet, she's you....but a girl" or " You guys are literally the same person", we would have had this wedding paid for before we even started dating.
Which would have been appropriate because Chet was already on the road to marrying me from the get go. Way back when in Dublin, over a few stiff drinks and a deck of cards I said something funny (go figure) and Chet just looked over and said "Marry me". I wasn't even sure what his last name was, where he was from, or even what he ACTUALLY did on the ice show, but I was like...."Okay".
Love found us in a hopeless place ( That's from a song, the first one we danced to). I mean tour isn't really HOPELESS, but it's not as if you could just pull up the Tinder and match with the person across the room back then.
Nope, you had to wear a plaid shirt to The Dragon (we're still in Dublin) and dance with me to Rihanna. Trying to sing the song is a plus, absolutely butchering it was endearing....he tried at least!
Back to the plaid:
He likes me, I like him, whats the problem? Oh yeah, we're both too nervous to admit it. So friends do it for us of course! I think they wanted us together more than we knew we wanted us together. Eventually this cute guy comes up to me on the dance floor and says " Hi" to which I reply " I like plaid" (Really Sarah? WOOF)
Right before our first kiss, I was asked if I was going to have a midnight kiss. It was New Years people, don't get any ideas. I remember I smiled at whoever asked (smiled more inside) and said "Who knows!". Obviously I knew. Maybe Chet did, it doesn't matter anymore does it?
Okay so the above exchange wasn't EXACTLY right before, maybe a couple of hours. So right before. Picture a bar rooftop, crowded, two different ice shows (yay!) and a whole bunch of random people. I'm counting down with my best friend Jess, but we're both silently looking for certain someones so MAYBE we can make this the BEST NEW YEARS EVER. Oh, found them! 3, 2, 1, Happy New Years! Kiss Jess, look straight ahead. ( This part may be dramatized slightly) The crowd parts, Chet's hand reaches out, I grab it and he pulls me in for our first kiss.
When I think about it, fireworks were going off. They weren't, but it would have been appropriate.
