Do I need a passport to go?

Yes! You will need a passport that is valid for over a month after the trip to Costa Rica. DO NOT FORGET THIS! Some airlines will also ask you to enter your passport info when checking in for your flight.

What to expect when I arrive to Costa Rica?

Liberia is a very small airport so there is no need to worry about getting lost. After exiting the plane, you will head towards immigration. If you’re confused about where to go, it’s easy – follow where everyone else on the plane is walking! There is one line for immigration that is downstairs and usually rather long. During immigration you will be asked to fill out a form and a guard will check your passport – be prepared to provide the name of the hotel or condo where you will be staying, as well as a few other general questions such as: what your occupation is or your reason for travel. After immigration you can pick up your checked baggage in the baggage claim area. Again, just follow the crowd!

How do I get from Liberia Airport to Tamarindo?

We have arranged transportation with Colibri Transfers & Tours. Once you’ve collected your bags, guests should exit the airport through the small exit door next to the restrooms that leads to the parking lot. Jose or one of his drivers will be waiting with a sign that reads “Dukarski Wedding” - or something similar. Depending on the time you arrive, you might be grouped with other friends & family. You can expect to pay between $20-$40 per person for transportation. Please be prepared to pay in cash for the ride – USD is perfect. Tips are always appreciated, 10-20% is customary ($2-10). The transportation team has been given your flight information and will be assisting with transportation on your flight home as well. Return pick up times will be given at the welcome party.

What's the plan for wedding day transportation?

On the day of the wedding we have arranged for Jose and his drivers to be available from 2:30pm – 2:30am. Shuttles will pick guests up from their hotels at scheduled times – your time will be given at the welcome party. The team will provide rides to the ceremony and will remain available throughout the wedding in case anyone would like to leave early. At 10pm the wedding venue will close and guests may choose whether to head home or to the afterparty. The transportation will follow the Bride & Groom to bars/restaurants after the wedding is over. If you choose to venture out somewhere else, you can ask the driver for his phone number to stay in contact.

What if I want to visit different parts of Costa Rica?

If you would like to explore more than just Tamarindo, feel free to reach out to the couple for advice on where to stay and what to see. Jose and his transportation company will be happy to assist you with your transports in between different cities, attractions, and airports.

How does money work there?

While credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, it's still best to have a little cash, just in case. The USD is accepted in most places but keep in mind they might give you change in Costa Rican Colon. Having $1 bills available for tipping is always a good idea. If you are interested in exchanging USD for Colon, you can do so at the airport or your local bank. In summary, we recommend planning to pay with card but bring $50-$100 in cash, including some $1's. TOURS & TRANSPORTATION REQUIRE CASH PAYMENT

Will my cell phone work in Costa Rica?

Check with your local provider for phone options, as this could depend entirely on your provider. For example, with Verizon you can use your phone for a $10 per day fee. Most companies also offer an international plan if you intend to stay in Costa Rica for an extended amount of time. You can choose to keep your phone in airplane mode and connect to the free WiFi at hotels, restaurants, bars, etc.. While in airplane mode and connected to a WiFi source you can use the internet, social media apps, messaging systems, and iMessage. This is what we commonly do while traveling, no need to pay extra!

What is the wedding attire?

The ceremony and reception will take place outside. For men, summer suits, linen pants, khakis, nice shorts or non-denim pants, long-sleeved shirts and plain t-shirts such as polo or a short sleeve button-down would all be acceptable. For women, cocktail dresses, maxi dress, jumpsuits, skirts or a high-quality romper would be fine. Pangas is located on the beach, but the ground is solid, so feel free to wear heels if you so choose and expect a strong breeze!

Is Tamarindo safe?

Absolutely! Tamarindo, just like most of Costa Rica, has a low crime rate and friendly community. As in any tourist destination, minding your valuables is always a good practice. You are safe to walk up and down the main strip of town at night, but please avoid wandering the beach or dark alleyways alone. (duh)

What's the weather like in Costa Rica?

Tamarindo will be hot and sunny during the day, expect 80s and plenty of sun. Sunscreen, hats, and a good pair of sunnies are a must - a bad sunburn on day 1 can ruin your weekend. When the sun goes down, the weather cools off to a comfortable range in the 70s. Rain is extremely rare in February but a steady breeze off the Pacific Coast is guaranteed. If you choose to extend your trip and explore areas more inland, higher humidity and a greater chance for rain would be expected.

Does Costa Rica have any Covid Restrictions?

As of right now, Costa Rica is completely open to U.S. visitors and there are no requirements for visitors. All wedding activities will be outside in open-air. We will continue to update you all if things change on this matter. (Fingers crossed)
