Please ensure you are flying into Nassau, Bahamas (NAS).
The Bahamas is a foreign country. You will need a valid passport for you and your children. Please ensure your travel documents are up to date for the dates of your travel.
Currency and Credit Cards
United States Dollars are widely accepted at a 1:1 rate. There is no need to exchange money in Bahamas.
Credit cards are widely accepted however you will be asked for photo identification when you use your card. A driver’s license is fine. Note: not all venues accept American Express.
ATM machines distribute Bahamian Dollars. There are a few in tourist areas (the Airport and Bay Street) that will offer a choice of currency to distribute.
Driving Directions from Airport
We highly recommend you get a taxi from the airport on your arrival. The drive is not easy for a first timer in this part of the world. We can arrange this for you in advance if you like – just let us know.
Driving in the Bahamas is not without its difficulties. The roads are not well marked, there are no good maps available, drivers can be a little erratic, the roads are not well maintained in all places and car rental is expensive compared to other parts of the world.
If you must drive from the airport, in light traffic the journey will take around 35 minutes. Here are the directions:
From Nassau's Lynden Pindling International Airport exit the airport complex and turn right on the roundabout to Windsor Field Road.
Drive straight along this road for around five miles (8 km) passing through five roundabouts. You will reach a large roundabout where you should take the third exit into Tonique Williams-Darling (TDW) Highway.
Stay on TDW for about 2.6 miles (4.2 km). You will pass through 3 or 4
roundabouts. Eventually you will see a shopping area on the right-hand side with a large Carl's Junior Hamburger restaurant. You will take the next right turn into Robinson Road at a major set of lights.
Continue Robinson Road (which changes name to Prince Charles Drive) for about 3.1 miles (5 km), passing a KFC, a large gas station and a variety of small shops. You will eventually approach an intersection where you will see a small factory on the right-hand side named 'Blanco'. Keep your eyes open because the Blanco will appear suddenly, and you need to turn right into Fox Hill Rd at the Blanco intersection.
Drive along Fox Hill road for 0.8 miles (1.3 km), passing the prison on the left. At the first set of traffic lights turn left into Yamacraw Hill Road.
Drive along Yamacraw Hill Road for 1.3 miles (2.1 km) and you will see a blue concrete fence on your right. This is the warning that you are close. You will see blue entry gates and signs for Palm Cay on your right. Turn here into the resort. You will be challenged at the security
gate. The security company will be aware of your arrival.
Continue into the property going all the way to the end of the road where you turn right, and the townhouses are in the first block on your left on the sea. Park in front of your villa. If you need assistance the security people or the dock people or the salespeople at Palm Cay may be able to assist.
Grocery
If you are taking a taxi from the airport the driver may be persuaded to stop and wait for you to do a shop on the way in. An extra fee is usually required for this and is paid directly to the taxi driver.
Solomons
There is a new Solomons supermarket located about 1.0-kilometre west of Palm Cay. It is within walking distance, but it is a solid walk, and you may not be able to carry back your heavy shopping.
There is a Flying Dutchman liquor store at Solomons, and they will deliver orders of more than $50 for free.
Seagrapes
The Seagrapes Shopping Plaza is a short drive away of 1.6 miles (2.7 km). If you do not have a car you can walk, ride a bike, hire a taxi, or even ask the marina as they may have a short- term car to rent.
The Seagrapes plaza has outlets such as Domino’s Pizza, Wendy’s, CVS Pharmacy, a liquor store, medical center and Super Value Supermarket.
