The area of Mexico that Sarah and Dylan travel to is safe to tourist. S&D travel to Rocky Point about 4-6 times per year with no issues. Please be mindful of Sonoyta, the border town as soon as you enter into Mexico. Please try to avoid stopping anywhere from the US/Mexico border until you arrive in Puerto Penasco (about an hour from border), but specifically DO NOT stop in Sonoyta. IMPORTANT****Be extremely mindful of your speed going through Sonoyta. Policia heavily enforce the speed limit there. If by chance you are pulled over, the Policia are typically looking for $20-$40 American dollars cash and will allow you to go on you way peacefully.
Do I need a passport?
When crossing by land through the Lukeville Port, you only need your birth certificate and state ID to get back into the U.S. from Mexico. The Mexican border does not check IDs coming into Mexico. Having a passport is the fastest and more ideal way to get back into the U.S, but is not the only option for re-entry to the U.S.
What do I put in Google Maps to get to the venue?
Paradise in Rocky Point Section 5 lot 13 and 14, Las Conchas, 83560 Las Conchas, Son., Mexico
Do I just put Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico into GPS to Rocky Point?
Californians-NO. Those of you coming from California will need to drive into Gila Bend, AZ then take the 85 down to the Lukeville Border Port of Entry. It is unsafe to drive through the Mexicali Port of Entry and down to Rocky Point.
Arizonans-YES!
Do I need Mexico Insurance on my car?
YES! It is illegal to drive in Mexico without Mexican Auto Insurance on your car. You can go to https://www.mexpro.com and get a policy for the days in Mexico (be sure to add the days traveling into and out of Mexico). If you prefer to call, Mexpro's phone number is (928)214-9750.
Can I use my debit or credit cards in Rocky Point? How much cash should I bring?
Sarah and Dylan typically bring $100 cash per day for their spending money. Credit cards can be used in some restaurants and bars, but cash is a much more secure (and negotiable) way to spend money in Mexico. American cash is widely accepted in Rocky Point, there is no need to transfer money into Pesos.
Where is the last place to stop before going through the border?
Typically, S&D stop at the last U.S. gas station in Why, AZ (Why Not Travel Store/Teaxco) before crossing the border. This will be where you can fill up on ice, fill up on gas, and go to the bathroom before arriving in Rocky Point.
