It's strange how the thing you're looking for actually is found when you stop looking. That's not exactly true, but when you stop&nbsp;worrying&nbsp;about finding it, then it almost seems to find you. Alan had relaxed on looking for love. Since moving away from Seattle and back closer to the pace of life he'd been missing, his days felt full with family and travel to see friends. He was free to explore and reflect and take a leisurely&nbsp;measure of his place in the world. Love was something he regarded fondly and preciously, but with a practiced patience that would allow for the possibility that romantic love might remain an unrealized hope. When he met Sarah, he had been on blind dates, fix-ups, and online match-making enough times to keep his expectations in check. She was beautiful, but experience had taught him to exercise caution and remain true to his intentions of digging deeper, rather than settle for a pretty exterior.&nbsp; "It'll all work out as it's meant to..." Los Angeles was 1,000 miles from her family's cabin, but it might as well have been another world. She'd visited several times since moving to L.A., but it took a global pandemic and some real time away from the city and around family to show her that while she would always love the city she left, her heart was awakened here at home. In this new world of firsts, she decided to take another leap and meet up with the nerdy uncle who seemed to prefer hot chocolate and long conversations to drinks and partying. "We'll see what this turns into..." Shooter's Bar &amp; Grill was a familiar local spot where Sarah and her family would grab a bite or a drink in the summers. Since she was already out at the lake with family, it seemed like a cozy spot to meet up with this lanky stranger. Coincidentally, Alan had visited the bar for the first time two weeks prior and was relieved that he wouldn't get lost. The brussel sprouts remained untouched as the newly-acquainted couple chatted effortlessly about everything and nothing for two and a half hours before Sarah was forced to return to her family. This was a promising first encounter...but neither dreamed this would be their last first date... ...and their last first date.
