It all started at a house party in November of 2018. A house party Sarah didn’t really want to be at. “It was a birthday party for my friend Danielle. I, of course, wanted to celebrate with her, but I had to drive there in the pouring rain… and the party was in Brooklyn,” Sarah said. Thanks to a few mutual friends, Sarah was introduced to Chris and they had their first ever conversation. But it wasn’t about the media industry they both worked in. Or about the size of the kitchen they found themselves in. It was centered around – of all things – the Mets and Yankees minor league systems. “I don’t even like baseball,” Sarah said with a laugh. The topic came up because the Yankees had a minor league stadium on Staten Island, which, in that moment, Chris found out was where Sarah is from. And in turn, she was happy to hear that Chris was a born and bred New Yorker by way of Queens. “I’ve always pictured myself with a New York guy,” Sarah said.&nbsp; Today, Chris admits he couldn’t muster the confidence to ask Sarah for her number before leaving the party. Luckily, a friend suggested he add his number to Sarah’s phone. A few hours later, Sarah sent him a text. A week or so after the birthday party, Sarah and Chris met at Ground Central coffee shop for their first date. Any nervousness they felt quickly subsided after they sat down and started talking. The conversation ranged from travel, their families, current jobs and everything in between. By the time they got up to leave, three hours blew by. And because they wanted to keep the conversation going, they stalled their goodbyes, visited a street fair and shared their first kiss at the entrance of the Rockefeller Center F train stop.&nbsp; By the time that first date ended, Sarah and Chris had positive--albeit polar opposite--thoughts. “It was a refreshing change up from a ‘let’s get drinks’ type of date and the pressures that come with it,” Sarah said. “but I was cautiously optimistic.” “I knew I wanted to seal the deal after that first date,” Chris said. Chris planned date No. 2 with the confidence of a man who was certain he had met someone special. The only problem? Sarah hadn’t yet adopted that same certainty. “When he told me that he made reservations at a really nice restaurant I sort of freaked out. I remember telling my friends, ‘this is too much too soon,’” she said. “I wasn’t used to a guy laying it on that thick right at the start. I didn’t yet know that the gesture was indicative of who Chris was, and is to this day - thoughtful, intentional and generous.” However, like date No. 1, the conversation seamlessly flowed and date No. 2 was extended--this time to a dive bar to cancel out the fancy-ness of the dinner. At Sarah’s request of course. That second date led to many more and they continued talking every day after that. A few months later, at the stroke of midnight on New Years 2019, Sarah surprised Chris by asking him to be her boyfriend, sparking the beginning of a relationship grounded in a simple but precious quality: bringing out the best in one another. “Sarah is nurturing and introspective about herself and the world around her” Chris said. “Being with her has allowed me to evolve.” “Chris has an optimism that I so admire,” Sarah said. “He has shown me how to be more patient and helped me grow into the person I want to be.” After four years of dating, trips around the country, moving into their Upper East Side apartment and countless nights of solving the New York Times mini crossword puzzle together, Chris planned a day of events that led to their engagement. First, they stopped by the iconic Rockefeller Christmas Tree and took a photo. They then walked over to Ground Central where they had their first date. And to cap it off, they finished their day of special spots at Carl Schurz Park- a special landmark in their relationship. Looking out on the water, they sat down on a bench and solved a Chris-made crossword puzzle, each answer being a highlight of their relationship. When the puzzle was complete, a message of “WILL YOU MARRY ME, SARAH?” came into focus. Chris got down on one knee and asked the question. “And of course I said yes,” said Sarah with a smile.
