Tom and Sarah met how many couples have in this new age of dating. Back in April of 2021, Sarah had just moved out into her own apartment and decided it was time to get back on the dating apps. She first started on an app called Coffee Meets Bagels, but she wasn’t having much luck. While at work, her coworker Denise told her about an app called Hinge. Sarah decided to give it a try. Many late night shifts were spent with her coworkers going through the list of possible contenders.
One night in May Sarah was in her apartment, and saw she had matched with a 27 year old guy named Thomas. For those that might not know how the app works, Sarah could either accept or decline the match in order to begin a conversation with Thomas. There was something about Tom’s profile that was intriguing Sarah, but she couldn’t get past the fact he was in finance (BORRRRIIIINNNGGGGG). The assumption that finance people are introverted boring nerds was sticking in her head. However, Sarah’s brother in law Brad told her why not give him a shot, since your "normal" type hasn't worked out in the past. Sarah decided to take his advice and matched with Tom.
Tom messaged Sarah with an opening asking her if she could top a story about how Tom and his friend Adam crashed a wedding. Naturally she couldn't help herself, but try to learn out more about this very interesting guy that seems to not be the "average finance guy". Sarah realized that Tom was a chatty guy and was hoping he’d ask her to meet in person. After a few days of constant messaging, Tom finally asked if she was free to grab drinks and dinner. They met for drinks at Saranello’s in Wheeling. Tom secretly thought that Sarah was a catfish, yet to his surprise when she got out of her car she was as beautiful as her pictures in her profile. Immediately the two started talking and quickly connected. They then made their way to Cooper’s Hawk for their dinner reservation where they continued their conversation. Both got so caught up in each other that they closed the restaurant down without even realizing they were the last ones in the place. Sarah and Tom didn’t want the night to end, so Sarah suggested they go to a bar named Gastby’s where they preceded to also close down the bar. The two became inseparable after that and on June 11th Tom officially asked Sarah to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history.
It's hard not believe in fate when talking about their relationship. When Sarah was growing up she used to go to away camp most summers. The camp was YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside, IL. On the way to camp, Sarah would know she was close when she would spot a marsh with dead trees off of Route 120 in Grayslake. In time, Sarah would have many reasons to pass by Tom's childhood home; be it she was visiting her sister's house or her mother at work. Since she was little she would wonder who lived in the houses that lined the marsh. She’d later come to learn that it was Tom’s family who lived by the marsh for all these years.
Ready for another crazy "coincidence"? Sarah’s mom used to babysit a little girl named Sarah. She loved the name Sarah so much that she decided she would have to name her second daughter Sarah. Now this is where it gets NUTS, that little girl's last name.......was LEAHY.
These two things alone make it seem like Sarah and Tom were just meant to be together. The two truly have become each others best friends, and can’t imagine their lives without the other.
