Our Beginning

Written by Savannah Our story began January 5, 2019 at Fresh Brewed Coffee House in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I was there to watch Cicala perform, and Greg was the bass player. Something about him immediately captured my attention. As I was leaving the show and walking to my car, I could not stop thinking about the bass player. I was at my car door about to get in when I made the decision to ask a friend to introduce me. That is when I received the cheesiest smile and handshake from the man I knew I would one day marry. *Pause* I know that this is super cheesy but it is our Lifetime movie love story and you came here to read it, also I just LOVE sharing it. Now, back to the story. 😄 	Later that night, when I arrived home, I received notifications on my social media accounts - Greg had sent me friend and follow requests on Facebook and Instagram. I was so giddy! I thought for sure he would ask me out immediately (I mean, we’d had such a great introduction and he clearly was interested, right?). But he didn't. So, I patiently waited for him to slide into my DMs or to run into each other around town, surely he would show up to the Tap Room or Island Bar or Fresh Brewed or somewhere! But he didn't. And he didn't ask me out...ever. 	After six months, I was done being patient. So, I decided to make the first move - I messaged him. I had never been the person to initiate conversation or ask someone out on a date. I had no clue what to message him, but I knew I couldn’t let him go. I wasn’t sure what to say to him, until I saw a beautiful painting of his German Shepherd, and then I had an idea. He has a dog, I have a dog, dogs are things that people talk about in conversations... right? Yes! I decided that the least awkward way to talk to him was to message him about a painting of his dog he’d previously posted on his Facebook profile, and ask him for the artist information so I could get a painting of my dog (thank you, Victoria Honick!). From that very first message on June 23, 2019 until July 4, 2019, we messaged non-stop. And then we had our first date (finally)! 	On July 4th, I was going to be working at Croissants' Annual Cupcake Eating Contest. I thought it would be a fun event to invite Greg to and there would be plenty of people there so it wouldn’t be too awkward. I sent the invitation to Greg (yes, I initiated…again), but he never responded. I was so nervous he wouldn’t show up. The whole day I was working, I kept looking out into the crowd to find him, and then I saw him - I was ecstatic! Fortunately, I had friends around to calm me down before I went to talk to him. Once I was free from work, we spent the rest of the day together. We went to eat and had a very awkward conversation, and then he took me to his friend's house for a Fourth of July party. We had so much fun! 	We were pretty inseparable after that. It all felt so easy! And then one day, we hung out after his band practice, and he told me that he’d informed the guys that I was his girlfriend....that was his way of making it official! During a phone call three months later, with the help of some liquid courage, I blurted out that I loved him (I initiated again, but who’s keeping score? 😅). And now we’re here! I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with the bass player that gifted me the most amazing smile. ♥️

Our Proposal

Written by Gregory﻿The first time marriage ever came up between Savannah and me was at an Easter celebration in 2020. My aunt, never one to shy away from a direct question, looked at me and asked—right in front of Savannah—"So, are you planning to marry this girl or what?" I turned to look at "this girl," and as I held her gaze, I answered with certainty: "Yes. Yes, I am." Now, you might be wondering—if I knew I wanted to marry her in 2020, why wait five years? The truth is, we both knew we were each other's forever person. We weren’t in a rush to put a title on it. Plus, I wanted to surprise Savannah—and if you know her, you know she is the hardest person to surprise with anything. That same year, I bought Savannah a small diamond heart ring—not quite a promise ring, but more of a sweet gesture… and a sneaky way to figure out her ring size.Fast forward to 2023. Savannah, her mom, and I took a trip to Disney World. One afternoon, we wandered into a jewelry store in Disney Springs. Savannah and Deanna browsed for a bit and then walked out. I didn’t. That day, I bought her engagement ring. I had already done my research and knew exactly what she would love, but I spent so much time in the store that I was worried she’d get suspicious. So, I came up with a plan—I bought her a pavé pear diamond necklace as a decoy. A month later, the ring arrived. Now, I just had to figure out how to ask her. Savannah had scheduled a photoshoot with a photographer in Oklahoma City. We had never had professional photos taken together, and she wanted to use them for Christmas cards. The only issue? The photographer canceled. Multiple times. In fact, she even tried to cancel on the day of the proposal. That morning, Savannah was at the nail salon—getting her nails done for the photoshoot, but also because she knew I would be proposing soon and wanted to be prepared. When the photographer called to cancel yet again, Savannah was devastated. She called me, frustrated about how unreliable the photographer was.I had to step in. I called the photographer, explained my plan, and made sure the shoot was back on. That afternoon, we went to Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City on the coldest day ever. We were freezing. The photographer guided us through all the usual shots, and then, very awkwardly, set us up for the proposal. The plan was for me to "run up behind Savannah and pick her up." She stood in front of me, completely unaware. Only one problem—the ring was in my jacket pocket because the box would have been way too bulky and obvious in my pants pocket. I ran back to put my jacket on, and the photographer, trying to play it cool, said, "Yeah, you guys should put your jackets on."Looking back, that moment was probably a giveaway—but somehow, against all odds, we actually managed to surprise Savannah. The photographer counted down from three to signal when I was supposed to come up behind her and "pick her up." One... two... three... But I didn’t move. I guess we (the photographer and I) expected Savannah to turn around to see why I wasn’t coming to get her—but she just stood there. Later, she told me she was completely frozen, and deep down, she knew something big was happening. So, I had to prompt her. Literally. "Turn around." When she finally did, her first words were: "What are you doing down there?" She was so confused—haha! Once she realized what was happening, she let me say my spiel, and of course, she said yes. And, as you can see in the photos, she decided she should also kneel down to say yes. It was such a special moment, and even though we had to wait for the pictures, we’re so happy to have them to tell the story with. Deciding to marry my best friend was the easiest decision I've made.

Now, Zara is standing beside Savannah once again, this time as her Maid of Honor, helping her celebrate her biggest day yet!

Brett has been Greg’s right-hand man for the past twenty years! Their friendship began in sixth grade, bonding over music and skateboarding. Together, they formed The Dirty Earls—their first band—spending countless weekends hanging out and practicing. Through every stage of life, Brett has always been there, and now, he’s standing beside Greg once again as his Best Man.

Together, they’ll be performing a handpicked selection of beautiful melodies to set the tone for this special union. Please Note: We will be having an Unplugged Ceremony—meaning no cellphones, electronic devices, or personal cameras will be allowed during the ceremony. No need to worry, we've got all the angles covered!   During the Reception Get ready to celebrate! DJ Magic Mike will keep the energy high with a playlist we’ve thoughtfully curated just for the night.
