It was the summer of 2023 in Dyersville, Iowa. Savannah was beginning her senior-year summer internship at the Field of Dreams Movie Site, and I was a year out of college, handling

social media and marketing for the site. We had attended colleges just blocks apart without ever crossing paths—at one point even living only streets away from each other. Yet, somehow, our worlds had never collided... until the end of May 2023.

It was a hot summer day when I was tasked with presenting to the new hires and summer interns, a role I had taken on for several years. I covered the basics—photography tips, simple

marketing concepts, and what the summer ahead would look like. I remember walking into the old barn on the hill and scanning a room full of eager interns, excited for what was to come. Almost immediately, Savannah caught my eye. As I presented, I couldn’t help but notice her vibrant smile and kind eyes. I found myself eager to wrap things up so I could learn more about her.

That day marked our first conversation—and our first meeting. From there, we talked for several days until our first major assignment working together. Championship Sunday was a long-standing tradition at the Field of Dreams, when we hosted youth tournaments that typically lasted a few hours. This day, however, was different. From sunrise to well past sunset, we sat behind the backstop running the day’s events. In reality, we spent the entire day talking—getting to know each other and unknowingly beginning what would become our love story.

As Savannah left that night, I sat there, completely taken aback by the woman I had just spent the day talking to. I went home and told my roommate, Braydon, all about it. He was just as amazed that we had spent an entire day talking without pause. From that moment on, we spent nearly every day of the summer together. At work and outside of it, we became inseparable. Trips to the Wisconsin Dells, minor league baseball games, Dogfish lacrosse games, and the

night we officially started dating under the fireworks in Dyersville, Iowa—all of it felt incredible.

It didn’t take long for us to realize this was it. On a warm summer day atop my apartment rooftop in downtown Dubuque, Savannah told me with a grin on her face “I think I might love you”. In that moment, we both knew this was something different—something lifelong. Just a few short weeks later, we walked into a jewelry store to try on rings. We managed to keep it a secret for only a few hours before telling Savannah’s sister, Belle. As the planning continued

and I searched for “the ring,” we decided we would wait a year after meeting to get engaged. Deep down, we both knew we wouldn’t make it that long. After all, when you know, you know. The next big step was the biggest conversation of my life—seeking the blessing from Savannah’s parents.

I decided Thanksgiving on the family farm was the right time.

While therest of the family played games inside, Jen, Byron, and I were sweeping out the barn. I had rehearsed what I wanted to say for days, but when the moment came, the script disappeared. They say speaking from the heart comes naturally, and I can now attest to that. After rambling about my love for Savannah, Jen and Byron stopped me and told me I had their full support. It’s a moment I’ll never forget. With the ring acquired and her parents’ blessing in hand, the final step was choosing the perfect time and place. One location stood out above all others—the barn where we first met at the Field of Dreams.

Just days before the new year, we ventured out to a snow-covered Field of Dreams Movie Site. I led Savannah, blindfolded, into the barn, now glowing with lights. Only months after meeting, we returned to the place where it all began—this time for the biggest moment of our lives so far. I

got down on one knee and asked the love of my life, my best friend, and truly the greatest person I know to spend her life with me. She said yes—obviously.
